I have so much gratitude for having found the Yoga Shala Seattle. The Ashtanga practice is invigorating, challenging, and transformative; the Yoga Shala offers it with a progressive approach (with reverence for the lineage) in an incredibly supportive atmosphere that honors the practitioner for who they authentically are. The teachers are also students and are seen on the mat next to you and that speaks volumes to me; they practice what they teach and teach what they practice.
Ashtanga vinyasa is offered with beginner specific led classes, traditional and non-traditional led classes, and mysore style (kinda like independent study with teacher assist) weekday mornings. They also offer led Rocket Yoga classes (like a power yoga flow based in Ashtanga) and led restorative yin classes. The Shala hosts fantastic guest teachers with diverse perspectives from around the world for workshops.
I also have had the joy and privilege to take part in their 200 hour yoga teacher training and one of their retreats, both of which were fantastic experiences that I can't speak highly enough of. They have lots of lovely plants in the space which give the studio serious good vibes.
They are close to the link station and generally street parking is available. They offer classes at a sliding scale to promote accessibility to the practice. They are queer and POC friendly.
If you are looking for a welcoming, diverse, and supportive yoga home, this...

Over the summer, I regularly go to Rocket classes in the evenings as it works with my schedule better. If you’re looking for a studio, you have to check this place out! They have so many new offerings and guest...

It is a breath of fresh air with its queer and immigrant leadership. The Yoga Shala Seattle also hosts incredible guest teachers from Latin America and other parts of the US!
I started here as a beginner 1 year ago. The teachers teach ashtanga (and Rocket Yoga) around the US and the world and many of the practitioners have been practicing for many years. It's an amazing opportunity to be able to practice in space side by side with such advanced practitioners, but also where all levels truly...
