As a 1st timer to Sedona, it was recommended to me to take a Jeep tour...any Jeep tour. Just get out there and see the beauty! My family and I picked a Groupon deal that included a private (up to 5 people) tour, and we FORTUNATELY ended up with an awesome tour from A DAY IN THE WEST and bros. We went on the Diamondback Gulch Tour, booked by Kenny, greeted by Hollywood, and driven by Colorado. Great drive, views, storytelling, and a couple of 'extreme' spots where you have to hold on tight! Our tour started early (8am) and took about 2hrs, which was great, because it started to get really hot around 11am.
