😊: I appreciated the fact that on request the building work that was going on during my stay started at 8 am instead of 7 am the second morning. The breakfast was also very nicely cooked and presented. The rooms are spacious.. 😢: Where to start. As other guests have noted, this place is in need of a facelift. Unfortunately, it was getting it during my stay, something I was not prepared for as I arrived for a "peaceful" break in Sedona. Both construction and major renovation work were underway. I literally had to duck under scaffolding to get to the reception/dining area where the building was being stripped of stucco and basically rebuilt from the outside. Building debris was all over the place, including directly in the path from my room to the dining area. Building work woke me up at 7 am on the first day. That is totally unacceptable, as is the fact that this place is open at all during such major works, particularly at well over $300 per room. There was an area of the breakfast room ceiling that was sagging and looked frankly unsafe. (The first three pictures below are of the outside part of this reception and dining area.) People working here were polite and friendly and not responsible for this mess, but there were other irritating details such as keys being left out for "late check ins" - I arrived at 4pm. That is not a late check-in. If you don't have a front desk working all day then just say so. Also, the frankly rude sign on a basket of dark towels on the floor in the bedroom (see picture below) was something I really didn't need. That notice - we'll fine you if you dirty our towels - sent a message that was the whole vibe of my stay: guests are a nuisance. Other guests have already commented on the fact that rooms are not serviced other than on request. They should be. Owners of Alma de Sedona: guests are your raison d'etre, not children threatened with the naughty stool: you had better get that front and centre if you want to stay in business. This place is an utter disgrace that ranks with the worst of Fawlty Towers, but...
Read moreI’m not sure where all the rave reviews about Alma de Sedona come from 🤷🏼♂️. We stayed in the Casa Blanca room and as we approached the door of our room my first thought was, “hmmmm.” The door was tired, the knob was old and there was evidence of wood rot on the door frame. Upon opening the door we were met with that musty old smell that comes from either an antique store or a damp basement. The room was very tired: the two chairs were well worn and dirty, the television was small and old, a 1990’s CD player and an old digital alarm clock were “amenities,” the jetted tub showed its age as well and the mini-fridge sat on a wooden box in the closet. We couldn’t find any glasses or the coffee pot until we looked in a cabinet under the bathroom sink (rather disgusting on many levels). Upon reserving the room they ask about food allergies and my wife suffers from a severe dairy allergy so when we were greeted by staff at breakfast and told what breakfast would be they had no idea we had made notice of the allergy issue. To their credit they substituted fresh fruit for a muffin and were able to amend the breakfast entree to eliminate the dairy. My point here is that it’s pointless to ask if staff isn’t made aware of the issue. We arrived after the 5pm check-in deadline and notified the desk that we’d be arriving late (we actually arrived at 6p). Our keys were left in a basket on the office door along with local information. All in all the staff we had contact with were very nice. The views were nice but there wasn’t much time to enjoy them with an 11a check-out time; a multiple night stay may have allowed for more enjoyment. While this review might seem hyper-critical, it’s very disappointing when the value you receive for the price you pay does not match. We paid $359 + tax for a single night stay and the actual value of that stay was more like $200 for the room with breakfast being a $25 value; so all-in $225. In my opinion, Alma de Sedona is trying to portray their venue as an upscale B&B style inn when actually it’s more like a 2 star...
Read moreThe Inn was located in proximity to the downtown area. It was far enough away from downtown to be in a quiet location. The Inn was a street or so up from the main road. It was easy to find. There was free self-parking. Upon our scheduled check in, Lori gave us a folder filled with recommendations for food and activities, maps, and local brochures. She took the time to sit down with us and help guide us to locations of certain hikes, and the best times to go as well. It was awesome! Jim served us breakfast every morning. He was so sweet and talkative, providing us with a one of a kind customer service. The breakfast was made fresh, and was adaptable if someone had a food allergy as well. Everything tasted great. Although we did not use them, I was told they also had a breakfast-to-go option. Our room was great. The room itself was spacious with a large bedroom, and a beautifully remodeled bathroom complete with a Jacuzzi tub. We stayed in the Casa Blanca, which was located on the second story. The private balcony looked out to a great view of Thunder Mountain. The room was clean. House keeping was available upon request. The fireplace was cool to have in the room as well. Ice was provided to the room upon request. It had AC, a TV, and a mini refrigerator. Wifi was provided. There was an outdoor pool and sun chairs available for us. It was cleaned daily, although during the monsoon season the wind blew a lot of debris into the water. The water was cool and felt great after a day of hiking. There were many resources available in the lobby from local information to games, umbrellas, books, and postcards. The Inn also offered spiritual retreats. Our visit was during the COVID pandemic, and the staff made sure precautions were taken. We would definitely stay here again! I can’t imagine a better place. What...
