Well we had a great experience with food and the wine was amazing. Good service from waitstaff. Which would have made it a 5 star rating. We spent a fair amount of money there. Ordered 2 dishes, dessert, a few glasses of wine between us, AND a bottle of port to take home, as we were very impressed with every wine by the glass we had gotten. Also, the food was great, ahi tacos were such a cool, unique dish because of the radish being used in place of tortillas. Had a great sauce and beautiful presentation. It was a perfect meal. And cheesecake to finish it off. Truly, 5 stars....all the way to the very end....then, alas, something very inappropriate and awkward occurred as we were leaving. We got back out to our car and I noticed before starting to pull out that an employee who had been working behind the counter the whole time we were there was quickly approaching our car. He seemed worried and came up to my window and asked about a bottle of port we had bought. Our waitress had added it to our tab. They have a restaurant/cellar set up and all the bottles were out front. So that is why we had picked one out and were still at our table, so when she came to ask if we finished, she just added it on. Anyway, the guy apparently was worried we had stolen it simply because it was not in a bag. Now. Look. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE WAITRESS BEFORE ACCUSING A CUSTOMER OF STEALING. He handled it cool enough when asking for the receipt "because it wasn't in a bag", but he FOLLOWED US OUT. Now, we weren't moving fast. We weren't acting sketchy. Honestly, we had just hiked that day (this IS Sedona) so our clothes were kind of dirty and I know my face was reddish and dirty. I cannot think of any other earthly reason he would have thought we stole that bottle? We were sitting OUT FRONT, actually very close to where this guy had been close to a register for nearly the entire time we were there. We also had the bottle on our table for almost 10 mins before the waitress returned to finalize our tab. So yeah, we most certainly paid for it. It was just weird because I have never, ever had that happen to me before. Anywhere, ever. Never been asked to prove I didn't steal something. I think it goes without saying that as a business owner, you had better be 100% certain someone has actually stolen from you before following them out to their car and asking to see a receipt? My goodness. He really could have just checked first. We did NOT walk out in any hurry. I was moving slow as my ankle was sore from hiking and I now had a full belly. And who precisely is jacking $22 bottles of port, of all the things?! And here I am, STILL being nice and only going down to 3 stars. Gracious of me. This can hopefully be a learning experience and a warning to not do this again. No one is going to casually and slowly walk out of your nice Sedona winery with a stolen bottle of wine AFTER having sat at a table for over an hour, ordering wine by the glass, and food, and looked through your bottles, sat a bottle down on their table for several minutes, paid their meal tab, etc. It's just...that can't possibly be the game plan of the $22 bottle of wine thief. If that's actually a real thing that ever happened, then color...
Read moreA pretty bitter experience! The open mic night is actually pretty good for most people. Show up early it says 6 and people show up to sign up at 5! I showed up a little after 6 vacationing from Canada. I was told it might be a bit of a wait. After an hour and a half and 2 meals served cold I had a table full of friends show up to see me play. Then I was told “if I can fit you in” they let all the locals and regulars play and go longer with time then stopped the jam just before me with only 2 people left in the list and an hour left before close.
My friend approached the person running the open mic nicely and said the whole table had come to see me play. He said sorry and was kind of rude to my friend.
Then I approached him and just suggested better communication. if I had known playing tonight was a “maybe” I wouldn’t have waited 3 hours to not get to play and would not have invited my friends. He was very rude and just said “well, you need to get here earlier”
I’m sure it’s usually a great event. But it felt very unwelcoming and disrespectful to someone new in town.
I am also a professional musician and usually get paid to play and play for large crowds.
It was both humbling and insulting.
I won’t be back. Paying for cold food and drinks to then not play, when I was told I would be able to was disappointing for us all.
Get there early. Take your chances.
A simple apology and acknowledgement would have been fine. Or let the last 2...
Read moreCame in here with friends/boyfriends while we were visiting Sedona over the weekend.
We sat outside at 9:30pm and immediately asked our waitress to clarify their hours. She told us they closed at 11pm, so we decided to order food and wine.
A short while later, the manger comes out and explains that they actually were closing at 10pm and that our waitress was mistaken and that we needed to leave. The manager wasn't very kind about this, but we offered to have our food boxed for carryout anyway.
We waited about 20 minutes for our food and then decided to wait inside to pay. Once inside, we saw the manager seat, serve and hand menus to 3 tables. She even told one table that they stopped serving food at 10, but were open until 11pm.
Since we did absolutely nothing wrong, I have to get the sense that the manager lied to us about their hours and maybe did not want to serve us? I can't figure out why we had to box our food to go and no one else inside the restaurant had to do the same.
Our group is very diverse, and I believe we weren't served because of it.
We loved the atmosphere and were planning to each buy a case of wine before heading back to our airbnb, but we all felt so saddened that we were discriminated against, that we did not.
Our waitress was great, the rest of the experience was not! I sure hope they don't treat any other people of color this way. Very upsetting and...
