I had the absolute worst experience with this gym, and after everything I went through, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Itâs beyond disappointing, and I honestly regret ever signing up. From billing errors to terrible customer service and an overall lack of professionalism, my experience was a complete nightmare. Here's what happened:
I initially signed up for a membership, but shortly after, I had to freeze my account due to a serious injury. When I called in to freeze my account, a staff member named Raheim assured me over the phone that I didnât need to provide any documentation for my injury and that all I had to do was sign the freeze form he sent via email. I signed the form the same day, and I even received confirmation that they had received it. Everything seemed fine at first, and I thought I would be able to rest and recover without having to worry about getting billed while I wasnât using the gym.
However, the next month, I was still billed. This was a mistake on their end, and I called multiple times over the following weeks to try and resolve it. Each time, I was told, âCall back in a week if the refund hasnât hit your account,â or âThe manager, Tyler, isnât here today. Call back tomorrow.â Iâd call back the next day, and Tyler wouldnât be there. This went on for weeks. I finally managed to get in touch with Tyler, and he promised that the issue would be resolved in 3-5 business days. He also assured me at different times that he would call me back with updates or inform me what his supervisor had said about the refund. Needless to say, none of these promises were kept.
It was incredibly frustrating. I was the one always initiating contact, despite the fact that this billing issue was entirely their fault. After about a month of constant back and forth, I was finally able to get the refund processed. At that point, I was so fed up with the whole situation that I requested to cancel my membership. I signed a cancellation form the same day, and once again, I received email confirmation that my membership was cancelled. I thought that was the end of it, but unfortunately, it wasnât.
The very next month, I was charged againâthree times the monthly membership amount. My membership was one of the more expensive ones, so this charge totaled almost $200. At this point, I had already cancelled my membership and was assured that I wouldnât be charged again. I was still recovering from my injury and absolutely did not want to deal with another round of frustrating calls to a gym I had already cut ties with. But of course, I had to.
Once again, I found myself calling week after week, being told Iâd receive updates that never came. To make matters worse, at one point, I spoke to another manager named Annamarie about the refund I hadnât received yet. Her attitude was appallingârude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. She even had the nerve to hang up on me mid-conversation when I was trying to get a resolution. If the issue was above her paygrade, she could have simply passed me along to someone who could actually help.
It took another month before I finally received my second refund. By this point, I was beyond frustrated. I also had them clear all of my payment information from their system because I never wanted to deal with them again. I thought that was the last of it, but of course, they reversed the first refund and charged me again. That was yet another hassle that took weeks to resolve.
This entire mess took over three months to sort out, and through all of it, I was the one constantly reaching out and initiating communication. Not once did I receive any proactive updates from management.
I genuinely enjoyed the facility and the equipment, but the management at this gym is completely unorganized, unprofessional, and terrible at problem-solving. After all of this, I would never spend another penny at this gym, and I would highly advise others to stay away if they value their...

For the last year and a half I have been training with Therese Jositas. Therese is an awesome trainerâŠlistening to physical concerns (balance, strength) as well as desired goals (wanting to perform a pull up, increase cardio in the work outs) and is able to incorporate creative training sessions to meet all goals. I would recommend Therese to anyone looking for a dedicated, competent, knowledgable trainer.
On a different note, as a member of the Edge for almost 10 years there have been many changes, the most recent being a different structure for the Edge Strong classes. Initially, in the spirit to embrace change, I kept an open mind with the new class format and schedule. However, as time passed, I realized that having the same class at all clubs on the same day does not afford flexibility of attending classes that meet my needs. Even though there are 3 âdifferentâ classes scheduled many times the same exercises are shared between the classes, making them a bit boring and the feeling of not getting the workout that was anticipated at the beginning of class. Previously, when there was a bigger variety of classes (foundation, strength, burn and my favorite EXCLUSIVE) and different times set at different gyms I had the ability to select the class and time that best suited my needs (I also attend Trumbull classes). Also, the ability to attend 2 DIFFERENT classes was an option (Sunday morning foundation as a warm up then burn class after). I have notices a smaller class size since the new program has been implemented and am hoping that changes will be considered.
The last comments will be on the gym itself. The Edge Strong classroom is too small and becomes too warm, especially during the summer months. A request for an additional fan in the has been made to management but has not happened. The floor needs to be swept/mopped more often in there as well as in the training room. People tend to move benches in front of the training room doors to lift making it hazardous when entering/exiting the room. Compared to other Edge gyms in the area, Shelton feels cramped...
Read moreI was visiting Shelton and decided to go to Edge Fitness over the hotel exercise room. At first everything was impressive. It's a very active gym with lots to offer. I've been to allot of gyms of all franchises in the United States so my review is based on comparison. Planet fitness, LA Fitness, Gold's. Etc. First I could not find any to no machines to stretch. The high end equipment was reserved for trainers or classes. Other than the gym itself it's pretty good. Now for the killer of the experience. The lasting impression.... as I was leaving there were two girls manning the front desk. The curly haired girl was awesome. We had a conversation about what the gym rules were on jump roping when I first came in. Great social experience! When I tried to leave the other bob hair style girl was attending to some seniors, which I respected and waited to get my Driver's license. Since I was a visitor you had to leave your id. She saw me and said be right with you. So I sat down patiently. 10 min later a line was piling up. I just needed 10 sec or less to get my id so I could leave. She bypassed me to the next person that just walked up right in front of me. Imagine how I felt! My experience KILLED right there. She eventually asked me what I needed and without drama I said my id please and I left. So I give it a 4 on my rating because that customer experience was poorly handled by the short bob haired girl. I really want to give it a 3. I waited almost 15 min for my driver's license so I could leave. :( To be fair the gym itself is a 4.5 . Customer...
