I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel like I have to share my experience. I recently went to Deleware Valley Appliance to buy a washing machine. I came in with my husband, ready to make a purchase, but from the moment we walked in, it felt like they did not want our money. We made a deal and went to get cash, which they asked us to- to save on tax. When we came back, several other customers who came in after us were immediately greeted and helped, while we were completely ignored.
We stood around waiting patiently, thinking maybe someone would come over soon — but time and time again, the staff walked right past us to assist others. It became painfully clear that the way we were being treated had everything to do with our race. No eye contact, no “we’ll be right with you,” nothing. It was humiliating.
Eventually, after standing there for what felt like forever, we just left. No one even noticed. It’s a shame because we came ready to spend real money that day. Instead, we left feeling disrespected. No one deserves to be treated like they’re invisible.
I hope Deleware County Appliance seriously re-evaluates how they train their staff — because what happened was not just bad customer service; it was racial discrimination, plain and simple.
In response to your comment, it was clear we were being treated differently than the other customers. The two men working there showed little to no interest in helping us. While we were in the store, we overheard them giving a detailed and enthusiastic sales pitch to another customer—but when it came to us, nothing was explained. We were essentially ignored.
Even when we returned to finalize our purchase of the washing machine, the younger employee left the store completely and sat outside in a trailer, leaving us waiting inside without assistance. This behavior was not only unprofessional but made us feel unwelcome and disrespected.
There is no way to interpret this experience other than discrimination. We were not given the same courtesy or attention as the other customers, and it was both obvious and hurtful. I would not recommend this store to anyone who expects to be treated with basic respect...
Read moreVery disappointed in the experience we had at Delaware Valley Appliances. In Feb. 2022 we purchased oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave for our shore home. We wanted to support local small business and someone told us how they deliver to the shore. Delivery was quick and efficient. Refrigerator was a lemon. There were dings all over the front of doors, freezer and fridge portion had extremely uneven cooling, the light in fridge was going out because wires on top of fridge were damaged and taped back together. Possible lemon or delivery went wrong. We simply called the store to get a replacement and that’s where the service went down hill. First they sent a repairman to look at it, then told us they would order a new one. Being the type of person who is not unrealistic. We we’e very understanding that items are on back order due to the state of the world since covid. Our issue wasn’t the wait….it was the lack of communication, empathy and overall service. Weeks would go by before we got any updates. Honestly I think months would have went by if I didn’t follow up myself. Once the new refrigerator came in, in July we had it delivered and all is good. Not one person from Delaware Valley Appliance followed up to see how everything went with delivery or with the new fridge. They treated us like we complained and bothered them. Meanwhile we were nothing but patient and understanding. Not the type of service I would give if this was my business. We don’t plan to return here unfortunately. We want nothing but the best for small local businesses but this was a terrible experience that took 6 months to remedy with...
Read moreI purchased a refrigerator from this facility and was recommended by a competitor. The sale rep was very nice. When purchasing from them, their inventory was very light. They had very few selections. When we settled on a refrigerator, they agreed to price match, but would take any additional percentage off on the floor model. The company also charges a 35 dollar delivery fee, which it competitors don't. My issue with company relates to removal. Initially, I didn't have the old refrigerator removed. However, when I spoke to several people from the company, they informed over a month that they had no problem with taking it. Recently, was told two days in a row that it would be removed. When I called about it, the women stated it was on the list to be taken care of. When I spoke with a gentlemen the next day, he stated it wasn't being removed, he clicked over while I was speaking, and hung the phone up on me when asking to speak to the owner. When I called back, I spoke to a women who essentially asked for 50 dollars for removal. When I asked, why wasn't that mentioned before? She became angry and stated, we are not removing the refrigerator and hung the phone up on me. This is a long post. I believe in supporting local businesses and part of the reason why I paid more for the product overall. Needless to say, I do not recommend this company. After they receive your funds, they don't care about your business. I regret purchasing from them. I recommend purchasing from Lowes or Home Depot, this company does not believe in good customer service and residual...
