I’ve had a really disturbing experience at this gym. I just moved back to town after being in FL for so long and of course I’ve decided to go to this gym because my membership applied here.
There is a training area which I understand is reserved only for trainers and their clients, but from my experience at these locations, the trainers usually lets a few people use the equipment/remain in the area but remaining out of the way. This specific trainers area is extremely smaller than I expected so I have no problem with immediately leaving when the trainers arrive.
To continue I am referring to the really tall and big trainer with dreadlocks. Anyways, I’ve been attending this gym since Monday (10/21), and every morning I’ve had an issue with him. Monday morning he rudely approached me and said bluntly “you got to go at 6am”, and im stunned so all I can do is nod. Tuesday day morning im there again but im keeping a mental note to leave by 6am, but Tuesday he comes earlier (like 10 mins) and abruptly goes you have to go soon. And im just putting these details here because obviously this man is in a terrible mood and doesn’t know how to speak to people because he could’ve at least said “good morning but this area is reserved and will be used soon…”, but of course I move to a different area because I understand the area will be reserved soon. … remember this is all happening at 5am.
The peak of everything happened Thursday (10/24) when I go to a different area but I had one of the kettleballs from the trainers area which I planned to return to the area. I know there are signs that say to not remove equipment from the area but again from my long experience with the gym at the locations in Florida though, the trainers are fine with taking the equipment as long as they get it back because they understand at times there isn’t a lot to go around….i kid you not this man marches towards me and starts yelling at me to return the kettlebell. And mind you I am out of breath because I am in the middle of a work out and before I can catch my breath to explain why I took it and how I assumed it’d be ok because I’d just have to put it back in time, he goes “return it right now” but yelling at me.
One note I’d like to add is that I go to the gym in the morning with a minor and he is acting so inappropriately in front of her too which I feel bad about because he is a big tall and scary looking man on top of that too.
All in all, if proper measures aren’t taken to remediate this I will escalate because no one should be talking to anyone like he was to me, especially man to woman, especially in front of a minor, and just overall as a human being. He obviously doesn’t like his job so he should just...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. This place is BAD which was surprising considering every other LA Fitness I've been to is good.
There are barely ever any employees making the rounds to make sure things are clean or that equipment is re-racked. Re-racking by guests isn't good either, lots of equipment doesn't work, and the place is dirty as heck. I usually have to try out 5-6 treadmills before I can get one that gets to my desired 9-10 speed.
There is also barely any gym etiquette with people super setting when it is busy as hell, people on their phones on the equipment when people are waiting, and people listening to music on speakers. But again, really no employees enforcing anything so that's the way it goes.
I never used the sauna because it was broken my entire 2 1/2 years there. The bathrooms are disgusting too with paper towels everywhere.
During the summers, they barely run AC in any area besides the area where the employees are (must be nice for them) to the point where you could not even see out the windows sometimes because it was so hot. You'd be dripping sweat just from stretching. The mats in the yoga room are tattered and chunks are ripped off. The front door was also broken for probably around 6 months at one point before it got fixed.
Worst of all, when there was heavy rain, the roof would leak onto the equipment floor. But instead of cleaning it in a timely manner, they would just put buckets to collect the remnants and act like nothing happened. These buckets would then be there for days and even weeks sometimes so you're dodging trash cans filled with ceiling tiles and rain water while working out quite a lot. One time the ceiling tile fell right in front of the dumbbells so they put out a trash can to collect everything. I then went home and came back 10 days later and it was still there. That's ridiculous.
Also, I never met Desiree but there are an awful lot of positive reviews about her and other folks left by accounts with one rating. I'd be skeptical of the good ratings for this place.
Don't go here. This place is bad but one of the few gym options in Stamford so they have ZERO incentive to make it better. If you want to use an LA Fitness, just go to the one in Norwalk. Much...
Read moreI have been a member at this location for over 15 years and I’ve seen it progressively get worse. Despite being in a convenient location and with a full offering of equipment, it’s becoming harder to remain a customer. Back in the day, they used to have paper towels dispensers on the gym floor, which made it convenient if you didn’t have a towel. They did away with them and replaced them with alcohol wipes. Half the time the dispensers are empty. The sauna - broken and out of service for an entire year in 2024, but miraculously got fixed right before Jan 1st, 2025 just in time for the New Year resolution rush. Free weights racks - ALWAYS empty or with the weights misplaced, in part because of the patrons not caring and in part because the staff never do rounds to re rack. Bathroom conditions - often dirty and messy (this improved in the recent months since they hired new janitorial staff) Upstairs ceiling - leaking after every rain storm, currently collapsed in front of the cable machines and with yellow tape around it until recently like a police crime scene. The only crime is the poor response to situations such as this. AIR CONDITIONING - where do I begin? Maybe with the fact that the recommended temperature for working out is 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit. NOT 82-84!!!!!!! Which is what the thermostats read in the upstairs area every morning. I approached the front desk staff about it and was told that the corporate office controls the temperature. I asked to speak with a manager and was told he was not in. It is not only unacceptable to provide such poor conditions in a workout environment, but also poses a huge litigation risk regarding the health of the customers. The other concerning fact about this is that the exact same situation happened last summer, but apparently it wasn’t bad enough for the management to care or do something about it. I hope I’ll get a response to my concerns, but it’s more realistic seeing a leprechaun ride a unicorn down...
