I was so excited to attend this event however I was very underwhelmed. From the check in process to the food, service and the show I was quite disappointed. The check in process was unorganized and clearly overwhelmed the door person. The concept was cool but without a sound system it was hard to hear the actors in a room of 70+ guests eating and drinking. One actor wore a mask (totally understandable) but without a sound system his words were muffled the entire show. The lights were never dimmed so it didnât really feel like a show.
The food was terrible and the service was even worse. When making an online reservation I pre-selected my meal (vegan) however upon arrival I was given a ticket for fish. When I told the server I ordered the vegan pasta because I donât eat meat he told me I had to wait until everyone else was served and he would see what was available. Once the food arrived it was terrible. Absolutely no seasoning. Everyone at the table needed to add salt and pepper which did not help. The chicken breast and salmon fillets looked raw with some cream sauce slapped on top. The mashed potatoes and veggie had no flavor whatsoever. The waitstaff removed plates workout asking if people were done. A guest at my table put her fork down to talk to another guest and the server snatched up her plate in the few seconds it took for her to ask her neighbor to pass the salt and pepper. Not sure why there was such a rush to take her plate because everyone elseâs plate sat on the table until dessert was served. There were 3 desserts distributed (apple pie, cheesecake and key lime pie.) Distributed is the key word because no one was given as choice. You got whatever the server put in front of you.
Overall the concept was pretty neat but left much to be desired. Unfortunately I wonât be returning (despite the discount offered for returning guests) nor would I recommend to anyone. Donât waste your...
Read moreUnfortunately, we had a really bad experience at the Dinner Detective. The service was extremely rude, disorganized. and very unwelcoming. Instead of an interactive dinner, this felt like an ice breaking team activity with light refreshments. Honestly do not waste your money, this was a money grabbing scam.
Upon arrival at 5:50 pm on a Saturday(starts at 6pm), the parking was extremely disorganized. There was no valet, and parking was across the street. They advertise that parking is $7, and they charged us $10.
As we sit at our table, we are greeted by a family with whom we are sharing a table with. At the table, there was supposed to be meatballs, bread, salad, salad dressing, and water. For out table of 10, they served us 5 meatballs, 5 small rolls, and not enough water and dressing. Upon asking for more, the waiter rudely stated that there was not anymore and it is what it is.
Asking for the manager, he then came and told us the same thing and that he does not make decisions. I stated that I understood if they ran out of appetizers, but to provide us with another service such as a round of drinks on them for the inconvenience. As he emphasized he did not make decisions, we asked to speak with his manager who runs the event.
While waiting, we went to get our drinks at the 1 small bar for about 100 people. The wine and alcohol that was served was very low level, which is unacceptable for an $70 per person paid up front event.
We finally were able to speak to the overall manager and he did not provide us with a solution, showed 0 empathy or care, and walked off. The show was supposed to start at 6 pm, and things were getting started around 6:30 pm.
We became so overwhelmed we decided to get up and leave. I really do not recommend this to anyone. One of the worst experiences in...
Read moreI reserved the dinner detectives experience for a private party for my husbandâs 50th birthday celebration on 4/2/22. I had never attended a show in the past but I knew I needed to make this birthday special. My husband is a Marine and a heck of a comedian in his own right. Needless to say he hangs out with a bunch that love a good laugh too. So, I gambled on putting together this private event. I work together with rebecca From the dinner detectives and Barry from the Newport Beachside Hotel To host this event for 53 people. Barry and Rebecca made the entire process so easy, They quickly responded to my questions and I had many!, they were accommodating and so easy to work with. When I arrived, I met jason our host. He Was friendly and also accommodating making sure to touch base with me throughout the show to make sure everything was going the way I wanted it to. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The actors were hilarious. There was one detective in particular that I want to mention âMikeâ.. All I can say is I couldnât stop laughing. This guy is talented and I can imagine he will go far in his career. The other actors were awesome including his partner female detective who was as quick as he was. They interacted with everyone so well. They even make sure to Include anyone else who had a 50th birthday Which meant a lot to me because I love our friends. I highly recommend the show....
