Slumberland: Do Not Shop Here – Deceptive Sales, Zero Integrity Order # 0525547WL93
I only ask two things of a retailer... 1) Don't lie to me and 2) Treat me with respect.
My experience at Slumberland Furniture in Sunset Hills, Missouri was an infuriating example of bait-and-switch tactics and deliberate dishonesty.
On May 25th, 2025, my wife and I walked into this newly opened store and spent over $3,000 on furniture—including an Ashley sofa, two Ashley chairs, and two Lazy Boy power recliners. We paid in full that evening and were explicitly promised that both recliners would be brand new, not floor models.
On June 13th, weeks later, I called to check on the order. I was told the couch and chairs wouldn’t arrive until late June, but the recliners would be available for pickup the following week. During that call, I asked again if we were receiving new recliners, not the showroom sample. The clerk’s vague and deceptive response raised a red flag. I knew something was off.
So on June 16th, I made an unannounced visit to the store around 12:35 p.m. I inspected the floor model recliner closely so I could recognize it later if needed, and then I took an extra step. I discreetly slipped a white envelope with my handwritten initials into the magazine pocket of the floor model recliner, my own personal lie detector.
While I was there, I witnessed an all-too-coincidental interaction: A salesperson, we'll call him Richard, or Dick for brevity, was instructing another employee to remove that exact chair from the floor. Suspicion confirmed.
The next day, June 17th, I received a message that my recliners were ready for pickup after 2 p.m. I arrived at 5:52 p.m. and Dick, the same salesperson I saw removing the floor model the day before, greeted me again. Dick asked me to drive around to the dock.
When I pulled into the dock he stated that one chair was in a box and the other was wrapped in plastic. I immediately asked: “Is the one in plastic the floor model?”
He responded by claiming that it was new but there was some "rigmarole" with the recliner.
I asked again. Same lie. One more time, right before they loaded the second chair, again, he looked me in the eye and continued to lie. So, I ripped through the plastic wrapping, reached into the magazine pocket, and pulled out the envelope with my handwritten initials that I had placed the day before.
It was the floor model. Dick lied to my face, three times. In total the store lied at least 5 times.
Caught red-handed. Not a word of apology. No attempt to make it right. Just silence. No integrity. No accountability. No respect for the customer.
This wasn’t just sloppy service, it was intentional deception. Slumberland tried to pass off used furniture as new and hoped I wouldn’t catch them.
Slumberland Furniture at Sunset Hills Plaza cannot be trusted.
They have no ethics, no customer respect, and no business representing a national brand. Do not give them your money. They do not deserve your business.
The moral of the story?...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience so far. The original order of a La Z Boy sectional arrived several weeks after the original promised date. Upon delivery we noticed they had ordered the wrong rug that would be placed with this sectional. The delivery people were rude and unprofessional and made a bad situation worse. They also forgot the table that was an accessory to the powered console. Since they didnt have the proper rug, they didnt assemble the 6 piece sectional for us because "it would be too much trouble" to disassemble and reassemble the sectional to place the correct rug when it came in. On day one, one of the armless chairs broke and left plastic pieces on the ground. After some back and forth, we finally got a repair person out here who deemed it needed to be replaced. We were told 7-9 weeks for that, we will see. Meanwhile some manager was supposed to come out and connect these pieces for us once the correct rug came in, and make everything right, but the rug isnt supposed to be in until the end of September, 3-4 more weeks. It is now almost a month since this has been delivered, (8-8-25) all the pieces are still loose, and as I am trying to connect them all myself, there are fitment issues that make the whole set look like junk, but what do I know, I'm no installer, this was certainly not "premium delivery". Furthermore, a 6 piece powered sectional came with all the pieces needing to be plugged in separately, not a big deal I can work it out, but a set like this, in my mind, should come with the proper cords to connect everything without needing 6 cords coming out of the back of the couch. We should have at least been told at the point of sale.
Everyone was great until they made the sale, our experience during and after delivery has been absolutely horrible. They still have a chance to make this right, but I am not holding out much hope at this point. I will update this review as conditions change, but as of now, I would buy my...
Read moreDo not trust their word and be prepared to be spoken to disrespectfully if any issue arises. It’s disappointing that their own store brand product is defective, and worse that their staff aren’t on the same page about policies, but even worse that the worker was extremely rude.
The store “customer satisfaction” worker was very disrespectful when I called about an issue. When I purchased an adjustable base the salesperson’s (she was great) manager told me it fell under the furniture satisfaction guarantee. Well day 1 and the store brand base is already having issues. I would like to return it because I spent $970 so I want a product that works and I don’t want to deal with a base that is already having issues from the start. I called and the assistant manager told me I could do a return through customer service. Then when I called they said I cannot return for any reason, even malfunction! How can you sell a product of your own store brand that doesn’t even work.. The guy was extremely rude and dismissive. Do not put your trust in the company as even when their employees tell you something they do not stick to it. I would not have done a purchase through them if I knew I wouldn’t have the ability to return if malfunctioned (who would want a faulty piece of furniture?) and the fact that I was specifically assured I would be able to but when it comes to it they won’t uphold their word. On top of it horrible customer service and will speak to you very disrespectfully. Waiting on the Director of this location to call me to hopefully resolve this and for them to hopefully speak with some respect at the very least. I hope to be able to update this with a positive outcome because their sales people my first experience...
