I would give a zero star but because of one sales associate I met, I'm giving a five star. Read my story! I went to get a suit for my wedding a month in advance to make sure I would get the suit in time. I was assisted by Katie who helped me with ordering a couple of different suits since they didn't have the suit I wanted. During the alteration, I was not sure if the alteration lady understood my requests, but Katie assured me that she will do everything to make me happy. I had to come back a week after for alteration, which took another week to finish. I don't live in this area so I had to drive an hour each time. I was kind of frustrated that I had to come back twice, but I was assured that my suit will be perfectly ready. When I came back to pick it up, I noticed the alteration was not the way I was told or requested. Katie wasn't in the store that day, so I was assisted by Laura. She insisted that we do another alteration to fix the vent so it wouldn't be floppy. She assured that it will be delivered to me so I won't have to come back for it and that I will receive it by the end of that week. Another week pass by and I still didn't receive my suit or hear from her. So, a week before my wedding I called the store to get an update of the shipping. I talked to Laura, she seemed to be in panic mode because she realized the suit is still in the store. She then said she will deliver it to me overnight. I received the suit next day, but the suit was completly messed up after going through two alterations. This time, I was panicking because I needed the suit in three days. So again, I called the store looking for Katie, Laura gave me options to do another alteration or get a new suit. Of course, I had them order a new suit and I drove an hour again for alteration. Katie assured me that she will be in the store to make sure everything will be ok this time. However, when I arrived she was not even in the store, she text me and told me to find Derrell B, a sales associate. He seemed pretty frustrated with this incident as he had to clean up the mess that he has nothing to do with for Katie. I was really mad that she lied and ditched me like I was annoying her. Derrell B. had to go in the back to find my suit, even before I began explaining/complaining, he calmed me down, listened, and explained what he would do to make sure I get what I need. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. I wish I had him assisting me when I first came to the store. Since there was no time to waste, he called a very experienced and skillful alteration person he works with to do my alteration. I chose to wait about 4 hours to get in the same day. After 4 hours, he brought me the suit, I tried it on, it was just PERFECT!!!!!!!! I could have not aksed for a better!! BEST sales associate. I shop at nordstrom all the time and never really had a problem like this, but certainly this was the worst experience thanks to unprofessional sales associate!! Derrell B. went above and beyond to meet my needs and took care of the business for me!! I'm definitely going back to the store once I get my wedding photos as I have promised him. This isn't a quick-draw negative review, either. After the store failed at customer service, I called the Nordstrom customer service line, and they didn't get it right, either.
First, as a business owner, I never judge a business by how they handle things when all goes well, rather I judge them on how they fix any problems that arise.
In this case, I ordered a blouse for my fiancé understanding it wouldn't make it by Christmas. My fiancé recommended Nordstrom as she has shopped there for many years. I waited for the email and SMS that would confirm the item's arrival at the store, but either didn't receive or see either. The first email I did see at 9:23AM 1/13 told me the item had been returned and the purchase price refunded! I called the store as soon as they opened and spoke to someone - I believe the name was Lola - who told me the item was still there, and could be picked up later that day. (When I phoned Juan at the Nordstrom customer service number, I was told that the hold should have been extended 3 more days) I affirmed I would be there by that evening. I arrived at 8:45PM, provided my order number and relayed the information that Lola gave me, but no one could find the item. A supervisor, Heidi, was called over and as they were looking at the order said "this shouldn't even have cancelled yet". No one knew where it had gone, and no one seemed very interested in performing more than a cursory look around. At this point I was told I'd need to reorder the item. No further offer was made. Heidi did indicate they were "in early" the next day, and would make a search and "let me know either way". Heidi did reach out the next day to let me know the item had been found, but that it was too late to stop the reorder. Heidi did well to let me know this information, but it sure would have been nice to have had the effort expended while I was present in the store. No hate for Heidi.....at least she tried.
Now, had something like this happened in my business, especially with a new customer, our apologies would certainly have been profuse, but more importantly, there would have been no charge - at all. We would say "this is not how we do business here! Please accept this item as a gift from us and try us again and let us show you what customer service is supposed to look like!" The customer would leave happier than they might have otherwise, hopefully feeling valued and understood.
Nordstrom, however, decided to play the "we're terribly sorry we screwed this up several different ways, but we're keeping your money" card.
