ASU parking and transit services is hands down the most cruel organization at Arizona State University. They will do whatever they can to screw over the students in anyway they can, and to make money off of literally poor students.
Parking at the Tempe campus is to say the least, a nightmare. The amount of students is very high and parking is very expensive. Like, expect to pay 200 to 1000 dollars per year for sure. Lot 59 is the budget lot, at only about 250 a year. And wow does it suck for that price. All sports season your car will be towed and moved to God knows where, and you have to call or pray for an email to find it. During the day, parking is nearly full, so expect to walk from Rio Salado to campus on the daily, or take the flash bus.
If you get sick of walking a mile each direction to go to class and want to get a parking permit for a closer lot, good luck. They won't sell it to you. They claim these lots are full, even though I parked at said "full" lots all semester once and never struggled to find parking. I don't know why they need to lie about this, but they do.
Parking at ASU, you will eventually get a ticket, regardless if you follow the rules or not. They ticket for everything and anything, since they are so greedy. To appeal your unjust ticket, just go online and try. While they process it, you can rack up late fees until they inevitably deny your appeal. Don't feel like going online to appeal? Calling them will do you no good, since calling ASU in general isn't very helpful. They always send you online. The phone attendants are very nice, but never resolve your issue.
And the icing on the cake is after every interaction with ASU parking services, whether good or bad, they have the audacity to send you a feedback survey to help improve and better solve your issue. You can complain all you want, leave threats, a number to call you, email, fax, mailing address, anything for them to contact you. They won't. They don't have the courage to actually help the students, only to screw them.
Overall, these guys are the devil (no pun intended). The regular staff is nice, but it's the administration that makes these decisions that hurt the student body. If you can, take public transportation or bike/wall to get to campus, to avoid any interaction with...
Read moreA professor (and AAA member) from ASU contacted AAA due to her vehicle not starting on 10/10/23. My battery tech arrived in the ASU parking lot where the professor used her parking badge to let him in. My technician serviced her vehicle then she advised my tech that in order to get out of the parking lot, he would have to follow her out using her badge again, which he did. Our company then received a citation for $150 from the ASU Parking and Transportation Services department for following the professor out. My employee appealed the ticket, explaining the situation but it was upheld. I (supervisor) contacted and spoke with a couple of people with the ASU parking and transportation services, finally spoke with a supervisor named Joe Buther. Mr. Buther was argumentative, as he talked over me and verbally brow beat me regarding the "unsafe acts" that my technician did by following the professor out of the parking lot (at her direction). When I asked what constituted a parking ticket like this for $150.00, Mr. Buther's response had nothing to do with using the parking services but instead Mr. Buther stated what could have happened by this unsafe act of following a vehicle out and what damages could have been caused to the gate (non of which happened). He stated to me that I would either have to pay the ticket in full and continue to appeal it, or he could cut the ticket in half and I could pay now. During my conversation with Mr. Buther, I felt that I did not have a choice but to pay this fine, as he is clearly in a position to make matters worse regarding this citation. This incident has provided me an opportunity to coach my staff on what to do in a scenario like this moving forward but I feel the ASU Parking and Transportation Services used predatory tactics to over charge a $150 fine for 15 minute usage of a parking lot while assisting one of their professors at ASU. Furthermore, I strongly suggest that those in an authority position and provided parking badges are made aware to not direct people to follow them in or out of the parking lot using...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars. As a PhD student at Centerpoint, I applied for a parking permit for the Centerpoint garage. My request was denied because I’m a student, and they claimed students aren’t eligible for access to this garage. I explained in person that I’m also an employee (RA/TA) and receive a paycheck from ASU, so I should qualify as an employee. Despite this, my requests were rudely dismissed, and I was offered only the option to park in a distant, more expensive garage.
To verify, I contacted ASU Parking customer support and learned that spaces are indeed available in the Centerpoint garage. Additionally, other PhD students on my floor have parking permits for the same garage. When I brought this up, the representative at the office repeatedly gave me the same unconvincing excuse, refusing to explain why my case was different or to address the inconsistency.
Until today, I’ve had a good experience at ASU, but the rude, unhelpful, and dismissive attitude at the parking office was unacceptable. I see no legitimate reason why I’m being denied a permit for the garage closest to my building, especially when I’m willing to pay for it and spaces are available. This gatekeeping behavior feels discriminatory and leaves no option for escalation to higher management. It’s deeply...
