Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko — Restaurant in Tempe

I have been a fan of matcha since early 2012 where I first had the pleasure of tasting a matcha latte in a quaint cafe in the heavily Asian populated city of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.

I have since then chased the high and wanted to get that same wonderful matcha latte taste I tasted in that cafe. I once ordered a matcha latte in midtown Phoenix and it tasted like dirt.

I saw a post on Tik-Tok that this matcha establishment was opening in Tempe and promptly notified my partner that we needed to pay it a visit. The location is very modern and there’s not too much decor going on, what they focus on is the taste and quality of their matcha products. I ordered the matcha-latte float with matcha and vanilla soft serve, my partner ordered the Maiko dessert special.

My the taste of my float was delectable, the soft serve melts in your mouth and it’s the perfect amount of sweetness. The only reason why I am giving this 4 starts is because my float was more ice than matcha latte beverage! Hopefully they can use smaller ice cubes in the future, my partner’s choice had matcha slices of cake, mochi, red beans and cornflakes! We had never tasted red beans and it was quite the experience.

Overall we are glad we went to visit and will be coming back in the future. So nice to see a matcha place that cares about...

A group of us decided to satisfy our cravings for their famous Green Tea soft-serve ice cream. We strutted in like the cool kids in town, only to find the place relatively empty. We were the early birds, and boy, did we catch the worm! Literally, because I ordered the Maiko Special - that thing is huge!

As I proudly carried my towering Matcha & Ube creation to the table, disaster struck. I clumsily dropped the whole thing on the table. Ice cream everywhere. But fear not, the guy behind the counter was an angel in disguise. He whipped up another one for me in no time. Bless his heart, he was so nice - probably used to ice cream emergencies.

The cafe itself is pretty spacious, with Japanese decorations adorning the walls. The vibes were on point, and we basked in the ambience while indulging in our sweet treats. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making our experience even more enjoyable.

Overall, despite my ice cream mishap, our visit to Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko was a delightful one. Good company, great ice cream, what more could...
