Quaint Cafe in downtown Toledo. Would have been able to give them a five-star however the service was very slow today. Went during brunch hours on a Sunday. Maybe a third of the tables had patrons. However, it took 40 minutes for us to get our food. Unacceptable. Fire a table of two. However, they did explain that they only had one cook. On to the good side.
Food was very eclectic, very flavorful, and piping hot when it came out. The waitress was very friendly and checked on us several times while we were waiting. I think she could tell we were getting very frustrated at how long we were waiting for such a small crowd and she did try to address it. I ordered the mower dish on the picture. The wife ordered the top dish on the picture. The wife's dish was a root vegetable hash. It had a very good flavor. Kind of a sweetness to it. It did come with a Chipotle style sauce but my wife is not a fan of sauces. I tried it and liked it. She tried it and thought it was spicy. This is a vegan dish okay and even I liked it. And I am a meat and potatoes guy. My dish was a sausage and spinach bowl, that also had potatoes and egg and a hefty dose of parmesan. It also came with onions which I had removed but I'm sure it would have tasted great with onions. Overall, the atmosphere is very antique/ modern. The food was delicious. The service as far as the waitress is seemed fine. However, the negative comes in for the weight. Overall I would suggest giving them a shot as they are hiring a second chef. We were told. And hopefully service will...
Read moreFor those of us that have been in the downtown area for awhile you will remember this location as Ranya's. However it has a new name, new menu, and a new look inside.
The inside is all new and has a modern/contemporary look to it. Unlike the old restaurant that was here, it actually seems clean and I head a person say the bathrooms were completely redone as well, so I would actually chance using them now.
When we walked in, we were a little confused, as there was a line heading to the register that seemed like people were possibly ordering their food and then sitting down, but this was just the take out line. It would have been nice to have a sign, like please seat yourself to stop the confusion of the busy lunch crowed.
Our waitress was very nice and helpful with recommendations to the table. Once our food order was placed, it took probably 20 - 30 minutes for it to come to the table and there were only 4 of them. So, if you are looking for a quick place to eat, maybe avoid this until the kitchen gets in a groove and can keep up with orders.
The food was pretty good. I had the Smoked Pork Tacos and the pork definitely had a smoking flavor, but seemed a little dry. The veggies on the taco also lacked flavor, but it was overall pretty good. There fries were very good as well.
Overall this is a great additional to the lunch scene downtown and I can't want to eat there again, maybe when they get all the bugs worked out of...
Read moreWe tried Adam's Street Cafe for the first time today as part of Restaurant Week. I picked up the Chicken Pot Pie family meal. It was amazing! The chicken pot pie had a very light, flaky crust and the inside was filled with a good balance of chicken and vegetables. It had a smoky aroma, which I'm not sure if it was intentional or a result of being prepared in a kitchen with smoked meats. It definitely worked in its flavor (hehe). The pot pie came with salad for four which consisted of a mix of leaf lettuces, carrots, tomatoes and thin sliced cucumber. The vinaigrette dressing was aromatic and flavorful with hints of lemon and dill. Our meal was rounded out with a serving of fudge, chocolate brownies. Overall, it was a good, quality homemade comfort food meal at a great price ($35), which was perfect on a Monday and to kick off Restaurant Week. I cannot wait until we have the chance to go back...
