I never write these reviews, but I thought others should hear about this. I was buzzed into the store from a gentleman sitting at a desk in the back of the store. I had three watches needing repair. I went to the display counter assuming he would get up and help me. After standing there a few moments, it became apparent that he expected me to come to him, and was not going to get up to see what I wanted. I went over to him, told him the issues with the watches. He took them, put them in an envelope with my name on it, and told me they would be done tomorrow. I asked for a receipt, but he told me none was necessary. I decided against my better judgment to trust him, but I’ve never dealt with a jeweler that didn’t give a receipt. The next day, I went back to pick up the watches. This time, when I knocked on the door to be buzzed in, a pit bull attacked the door, jumping up on the door trying to get at me, barking, and showing his teeth. Needless to say, I was a little startled. A man finally got hold of the dog, and I was buzzed in. The dog owner and the man who I had left my watches off with offered no apology, and in fact barely suppressed outright laughter, apparently thinking the whole thing was quite funny. At that point, the man who was supposed to fix my watches told me it had been a very busy day, and he needed more time to fix my watches. I can't imagine how busy he could have been, as aside from the dog owner who appeared to be a friend of his, I've never seen anyone else in the store. In any case, he opened the envelope and took out my watches, apparently for the first time. He tried to fix the broken band on one watch, but couldn't. He couldn't seem to be able to get the pin in. He then successfully changed the battery in another. It's what he did to the third watch, an expensive Wittnauer, that really upset me. It also needed a new battery. He couldn't get the back off the watch. At one point he went at it with something that looked a lot like a sheetrock knife. He finally gave up, telling me he needed more time, and told me to come back tomorrow. As I had left work early in order to get there before closing, I wasn't happy with this. I asked him how much time he needed, intending to stay until it was done. He again told me to come back tomorrow. At that point I asked for the all watches back, and asked what I owed him. He threw the watches on the counter, told me no charge. I collected the watches, and I left the store. When I got home, I noticed he had severely scratched the back of the Wittnauer watch trying to open it with the sheetrock knife. My wife gave me this watch as an anniversary present. She's more upset than I am. This is the worse jewelry store I've ever been to. No skill, horrendous customer service. I try to patronize local businesses, but I will never go...
Read moreThus far, I am not impressed by the watch repair guy. I came in with a watch that needed a winding mechanism stem (not sure this is he correct term). He was barely polite. I was told they might have it back by Saturday. I stopped by, but it wasn't ready. This was too bad as I didn't want to be abroad for a month without my watch. But the real problem was the way in which the guy spoke to me. He was dismissive. "Don't be so upset. It's just a watch." He displayed no empathy or understanding of the basics of customer service. He could have said, "I will do my best to get your watch back before you leave." Instead, he kept telling me that my watch wasn't that important and I shouldn't bother being upset. I told him that he had no right to tell me what I should or shouldn't be feeling.. He just kept telling me it was only a watch and implied that it was silly of me to be upset. I am a pretty well balanced and positive person but left the store feeling that I had been talked down to. His self-awareness and customer service skills need upgrading. I live at Kendal on Hudson and have already told several people about his attitude. Reputations are hard to build and keep but much easier to lose. I do not know the owner who may be wonderful. I just want him to be aware of the impact of his repair...
Read moreI admired a piece in the window for a few weeks, and finally had a spare 15 minutes so I went in the shop. The staff was so sweet and helpful. I went to a lunch meeting and brought my friend back in the shop with me after, to show her the item. They had called the owner and he was already there, waiting for me. He designed the piece himself, which explains why it is so unique. I wanted my boyfriend to see it, and so we decided to return a few days later. The owner called me to make sure we were coming, since we were driving back from upstate and would just make it before the shop closed. We made it, and the owner had cleaned and sized the piece for me. He is a gem - funny, human, precise and creative. A true master jeweler. I am so happy to have a new...
