Recently I visited the Emporium True Value Hardware Store located on Main Street in Sag Harbor. The Emporium is aptly named, for they undoubtedly offer every visitor here what they may need. If you need hand tools, bolts, nuts, and screws - they have it. If you need small kitchen appliances, gadgets, and housewares - they have it. If you need good quality, durable clothing to keep you warm at work - they have it. If you need birdhouses, feeders and quality, and affordable birdseed - they have it. If you need outdoor light, Christmas lights, and bulbs in all sizes and types - they have it. And they also stock specialty hardware for wooden shutters like you would see on homes in the 1800s. I could go on and on and make lists of things in here longer than Santa's list. So many of us shop online because it is convenient, and the Emporium offers this to you as well. They have a monthly circular announcing sale item so that you will enjoy even more value for your hard-earned dollars. And don't forget to sign up for their Rewards program and earn valuable points! But, if you only shop online, you will miss so much more here, like meeting store owner, Mike D'Angelo, and his welcoming, warm smile and or seeing the excellent quality of the items you wish to purchase. Or even experiencing shopping in a store that echoes back centuries to a time when the owner knew you by name and the general store was essential to elevating your standard of living. With the holidays nearly upon us, make it an Emporium Day in Sag Harbor. Shop here and then stop into one of the many fine-dining establishments for a decadent cup of hot chocolate, refreshing tea, or the best in wine and spirits. Stroll past the windmill for a serene view of the harbor, and I bet Emporium may even sell sleds in the wintertime so you'll be able to enjoy this quaint Currier and Ives village fully. If you should meet Mike, tell him, "Jackie sent me." This way, he knows those of us volunteer Google Guides really connect with...
Read moreThis family-owned operation is an essential part of the Sag Harbor community. Well stocked but somewhat over the priced on luxury items has earned this hardware store the nickname Tiffany's. The convenience of being in the middle of Main Street Sag Harbor and the friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff more than make up for the slightly inflated prices. There are only a few parking spots out back but a short distance to both parking lots behind town are we'll get you close enough when you're acquiring...
