Hands down, a terrible experience purchasing a carpet install through Home Depot. NOT recommended!
I'm disappointed that I have yet to receive an email to submit a review internally, after almost 2 weeks. I really wanted to submit my feedback, in hopes that this would help.
My wife and I determined that we needed to replace the carpet at our old house we are selling. After seeing that carpet could be had for as low as about 99¢ SQ ft for carpet, 69¢ for underlayment, and 49¢ for installation, we paid for and scheduled a consultation. We picked a beige trafficmaster carpet
We later clarified the consultation time for the first half of the morning. This worked well for me since I could arrive for the morning, work at the kitchen counter and leave during my lunch, since we don't live there and don't have furniture there. Shortly after my early morning arrival, I received a call from the consultant confirming a 6PM arrival... That was frustrating as I could have shown up after work instead. They were wonderful to work with though. I provided our choices for vinyl and carpet
Later that day I received an email confirming the quote was ready and to call to receive it. Why would I need to call? Why couldn't I have it just emailed to me? I called immediately and they were closed anyways?
I called the next day, found out that my beige carpet of choice was not available, but they said they found the same thing from a different brand for the same price. Cool. Not cool was that underlayment was 10 or 20 cents more per sq ft than the website advertised. No budging there.
The pricing was higher than we hoped, so we sat on it for a few days. Until I got a text saying we qualified for 5% off on the hard flooring. Cool! I called and was advised that we didn't actually qualify. Not Cool! The rep said they'd look into and get back. Nothing!
Scheduling was fine/as expected
I received an unexpected call from THD asking when I was going to pick up items from my order. This was confusing at first because I was not expecting to have to pick up anything in store? It turns out that I needed to pick up the lower rubber wall moulding for the bathroom, and I think seam sealer. Why didn't the installers pick this up?
Also I received an email a short while later after the call stating that my order was cancelled and I was refunded just over $1500. Which was an odd number, as it wasn't an exact amount spent at THD recently. Then again a short while later there was another emailed receipt for purchasing something undefined for the same amount.
When I was in the store to pickup the items, I mentioned this concern. The rep was unable to determine what happened, but said that they would leave a note asking to call me and discuss. I never received a call.
Received an unexpected text that I needed to cut a section out of the bathroom floor myself for an asbestos test and get it checked. I was frustrated by this because I wanted all of this handled by THD It wasn't that hard to get sorted, but again, is out of my way
I let them know of the timeline to get the report back, but was repeatedly asked what the status was anyways
I was last minute advised that the toilet would need to be removed from the bathroom before the installers were there. I was again frustrated by this as I would have expected it to be handled by the installers, and it is again, out of my way. It wasn't hard to get sorted myself.
The installers showed up with carpet that was not beige, and in fact a salt and pepper with beige. Drastically different, but I didn't have time for this mistake and so I said it would be ok.
The installers were very good, like 90%, but I kept having to point out strands of carpet left over from cutting that the edges. They also lost 2/8 screws from cabinet doors that they removed, and replaced them after I pointed it out.
The carpet really doesn't feel great at all & I'm disappointed that the bathroom moulding was cut in sections instead of being in a roll, so this left an...
Read moreNote: The people in the photo gave me full disclosure and permission to share this on social media: Last Friday I made a request to anyone out there in Facebook land. I don't come on here often anymore because there is just so much negativity. This is full of love, light and positivity that I felt it needs to be shared. I have client who's a Veteran, and who I recently was able to house. Only set back was that he's in a wheel chair and wasn't able to get into the house. He had no other choice but to sleep in the garage on a cement paved floor. I had beds delivered and he had his put up in the garage so he'd at lay be able to sleep in a bed. But that's not ok, for anyone. It broke my heart, and spirit and I made a request for help on facebook, but didn't really have expectations. On Monday night my husband and I took over almost $400 of groceries to the household of 6 but when I left them I saw what seemed to be a look of gratefulness but broken. The following day, on Christmas eve, my mom suggested I take her card to Home Depot and buy some lumbar and supplies to try and make a temporary ramp for my client so he can be in the house. My husband and I left immediately. I got to the Home Depot right by my house on about 251st and Stark in Troutdale and at found a guy there to help us with finding what we were going to need. He asked what I was going to need it for, he looked at the wood and said cutting it would still be problematic for the client to get his chair up the steps and said to us, hang on a minute, and left to make a call to his supervisor. He came back and said that he appreciated what I was doing, that I was spending my Christmas doing this and not with my family, and that he and his co worker were not only going to delivery all the supplies needed to be successful to my clients house, but they both put the temporary ramp up for him, helped him inside, helped take down his new bed from the garage and carried it to his room inside the house. The gentleman on the left is Ian, and the guy and the right is Tim(also a Veteran). The man in the middle is my client and was beyond grateful and we just couldn't express how much they did for this family. That's not all folks, they also did it all for FREE! No charge for any supplies or service. Just great people, great business with impeccable decent people staffing this Troutdale Home Depot. That's Service! All I and my client wanted for Christmas came true. Good to know real hero's do still exist. Support this local store. They deserve it without a doubt. This is why I do my job. Merry Christmas to all my friends and family and loved ones. Do a good deed this next year. You'll understand when you feel the reward of it. Don't...
Read moreI don't usually do reviews and feedback unless it's truly something I believe needs to be shared. I recently bought a NexGrill from this HomeDepot and had it shipped because I didn't have the means of picking it up and transporting it to my home. When it arrived, the box was beat up but honestly didn't think much of it. Come to find out towards the end of putting the grill together, I discovered the metal had been damaged during shipment and didn't allow the grill to be put together properly.
I hate having to make phone calls on stuff like this, but I reached out to HomeDepot and got ahold of the manager on duty, Ian (assuming that's how his name is spelt) and told him my situation of a busted grill with no way of getting it to the store. He listened to the circumstances and was willing to allow us to use one of their rental vehicles to take the new grill home and bring the old one back, and just return the deposit put down on it and discount the cost of the grill so it would end up paying the cost of the rental. It was really cool of him to be willing to think of that solution to help us out, but when he realized how close we live to the store, he took the initiative to coordinate another supervisor to drive out and actually deliver the new grill and pick up the old one so I wouldn't have to make the trip.
Unfortunately, I ran out of time to be home when they were going to make the time to do this for me, so I planned on calling back the next day to see if we can still make this plan happen. Once the next day came around, I was going to wait until after I got off work to call the store and talk to Ian again since he understood the situation. Once I got off work, before I could even call them first, Ian reached out to me to touch base about getting these grills swapped out! I never expect a store or any manager to go out of their way to reach out, especially when some time has gone by. But that evening he sent somebody out, and the grill they brought was already put together for me! I honestly was expecting to have to put it all together again, but I was really grateful for such an easy trade and be able to have the new grill already ready to go so I can start enjoying it!
Thank you HomeDepot, and THANK YOU Ian for being so flexible across out multiple phone calls and coordination to make this happen. Best customer experience I've had so far in something like this....
