I came in with my father and my baby as a belated bday dinner on a Saturday night. No one spoke to us when we walked in, though there were 4 workers standing at host stand. The one person and only person who looked busy at the host stand finally greeted us and told us it would be a 15min wait and that we could wait in the sitting area. When I turned around the sitting area was over flowing, So my father and I walked to the empty bar to sit. We sat for 10mins and had 3 employees behind the bar walk in front of us and make eye contact but no words as they made drinks for other seated guest. The people who followed us to the bar were overlooked as well so we didnt assume it was a discriminatory thing. Instead we assumed the bar was just not in service. After sitting unattended for 10mins a woman appeared. We could tell it was the bartender when she walked up with a quick look of being overwhelmed as she noticed 4 parties at the bar and no one had covered her. I guess she was on break and no one covered her. She quickly got it together and appologized and greeted all of us with a quickness, offering menus and drinks while we waited. We were sat at our table with in 5mins of her greeting us. Leaving the bar We were escorted by a young man who proceeded to walk off, after saying your table was ready. He did not look back as I stumbled with my baby in one hand and drink in the other. Luckily the bar tender wasnt far behind and took over as our waitress. She was kind and though she was busy, she took her time to explain the menu. The food was OKAY. I had the classic. The Shrimp was over done, a little hard and chewy. The crab legs were way skinnier than expected... like I could have picked up a hartier leg from kroger. The potoatoe was un seasoned and the sausage was definitely a cheaper variety. The serving size was small for seafood pounds, I figure they added the potatoe and sausage into the weight. My dad got a fried platter. It came out 12 mins before my classic, with a few mistakes. Our former bartender now waitress fixed it fastly and kept her great demeanor despite the setbacks. The huspuppies were famnominal. The fish was cut small like chicken tenders in a kids meal. The visuals werent all there. But they were full of flavor. We also had black muscles for appitizer, that also showed up 12 mins after my dads fry basket. The muscles we ordered with the reccomended sauce from our server, lemon garlic Louisiana combined, hot. They were very flavorful and plump. But like I said, they came out 12mins after my dads entre. Over all the Tasty Crab was okay teetering sub par. From my observation I expect service to be typically awful but was saved by our impromptu bartender turned waitress. DEFINATLY NOT WORTH...
Read moreIf you’re considering eating here….. reconsider. I am highly disappointed in my overall visit to Tasty Crab tonight. My friends and I used to frequent this restaurant on a weekly/bi weekly basis because we LOVED the food, drinks, service, and the atmosphere. The past few visits have been slightly disappointing and tonight was the absolute nail in the coffin. As a frequent patron, I typically order the same exact meal every time; The Crab Lovers with an extra pound of dungeness crab legs. I’ve never been a fan of snow crab legs so I always add an extra pound of dungeness crab to my order. Tonight, while eating my boil, I noticed that multiple of my dungeness crab legs tasted fishy, the crab meat was mushy/soggy, and had an ammonia odor. I notified my server about my concerns, going as far as pulling out the bad crab legs that smelled of ammonia and even opening a leg for her to see the discolored crab meat. She stated that she would check with the kitchen to see what happened. Several minutes pass, only for her to return, to tell me that they think I received a bad batch of dungeness crab legs. It made absolute sense considering what I could taste, smell, and at this point see, in regards to the spoiled crab meat. The server made ZERO effort in rectifying the situation. There was no offer to replace the spoiled crab legs, no offer to take the remaining unopened dungeness and remove them from my bill, nothing. For a customer to spend $100 on their meal, not including their drinks; I was flabbergasted that they made zero effort to fix my meal or refund me for uneaten crab legs that she and her kitchen staff admitted were a “bad batch”. After the server glazed over the concerns with no intention of rectifying the order, I truly didn’t have the energy to go back and forth with her, so my friend and I simply asked for the checks. When the checks came, my friend noticed that we had been charged more as their market prices (MP) were not accurate on their handwritten wall. We were both over the underwhelming visit and simply paid and left. I will NEVER dine here again. There are several seafood boil restaurants in Richmond, and I only ate at Tasty Crab because of their previous high food quality and service; however, my visits over the last year have been lackluster and this particular visit cemented that they’re no longer the amazing seafood restaurant that they used to be. My best advice is to find a better seafood...
Read moreThe service was horrible! I took my wife, Mother in law and family here on mother’s Day and the waiter Kevin clearly didn’t want to be there yesterday. He brought us a cup of tea with sugar and busted tea bags at the bottom, a cup that was cracked/leaking on the table and the floor. When we brought it to his attention he got smart and said “ok I’ll clean it up” but he never did. I find it hard to believe he didn’t notice it dripping before he brought it to the table, he had a pool of tea on the drink tray. His coworkers that helped him serve us were no better. I can’t remember the guys name that brought the food out but he got into a 2 minute disagreement with my wife about how he saw sausages in her boil in bag. It took for her to go through all her food for him to finally say ok you don’t have sausages I’ll go get you 1. You would think with the amount of money we spent $26 plus per bag (and it was 8 of us) that we wouldn’t have to beg for something we’ve technically paid for! For it to be a holiday projected to showing women love and respect you would think they would at least act like they had respect and not be nasty on that day. Not to mention the rotten potato my son bit into! Thank God he was paying attention enough that he didn’t swallow it! And yes i have pictures if proof is needed! This location is a prime example of just because something is expensive that doesn’t mean you are going to receive good quality! Everyone dropped the ball from the kitchen staff, to the waiters, to the hostess, down to the clean up crew that had empty dirty tables but a line of people waiting to be seated. The manager seemed to be the only one that understood what the term customer service meant and she apologized multiple times and even gave us a discount on our bill and offered a gift card. I know everyone is entitled to having a bad bad and every restaurant has it’s downfalls but it seemed like everything went from bad to worse here. I’m sure everyone has their own story and opinion of this place but unfortunately our experience was bad enough for us to...
