I will never do business with this jeweler again. Two years ago, they set my wifeâs 3.00 carat Moissanite stone in one of their settings. At the time, I was told by the owner to bring the ring back every year for a complimentary check and tightening of the prongs. The reasoning was clear: if the stone came loose or fell out, they would not take responsibility for replacing it (a $1,978 stone), so these annual inspections were meant to protect both the stone and their workmanship.
Last year, I brought it in and they tightened it at no charge, just as promised. Today (08/23/25), I brought it in again because I could hear the stone rattling in the setting. This time, the person at the counter tried to charge me $25. After I explained what the owner had originally told me, they checked their records, confirmed the work was done two years ago, and agreed to take it in.
However, their jeweler then stated he âdid what he couldâ but admitted he wasnât experienced in tightening prongs and was afraid he might break the stone. Having been around the jewelry business for 30 years, I know that is highly unlikely, Moissanite has a hardness of 9.5 and natural diamond a 10. No competent jeweler should be afraid of breaking a stone simply by tightening prongs.
To hear that this âhappens more often than youâd imagineâ was shocking. In all my years, I have never once seen a jeweler break a Moissanite or diamond during a routine tightening. This is unprofessional and raises serious concerns about their skill and credibility.
If a jeweler in their shop lacks the confidence or experience to tighten prongs, they should not be working on anyoneâs jewelry. This business does not stand behind its work, and I would strongly caution others before trusting them with...
Read moreI recently had a very disappointing experience at McGuireâs Jewelers. I brought in my wedding ring to have the center stone tightened, as I could clearly hear it was loose. This is something Iâve had done here before without any issues, in fact, McGuireâs themselves recommended I have this routine maintenance done annually after they set a new stone and mounting about two years ago.
This time, however, I was first questioned about whether the stone was actually loose. Once it was finally acknowledged, I was told there would now be a charge to have it tightened, something that had never been the case before. When I asked to speak with one of the owners (who originally helped me two years ago), my ring was taken to the back, only to be returned with the explanation that the jeweler on site that day was too new and inexperienced and didnât feel comfortable doing the work. I was told they didnât want to attempt it for fear of cracking the stone.
For context, this is a 3-carat moissanite with a hardness rating of 9.5 out of 10. Any competent jeweler should be able to tighten the prongs on such a stone without concern.
I walked out after being refused the very preventative maintenance that McGuireâs had advised me to do to protect my ring. The lack of consistency, accountability and service was extremely frustrating and disappointing. After investing in such a meaningful piece with them, I expected far better ongoing support. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with no confidence in returning and no desire to invest further with McGuireâs...
Read moreDO NOT take your ring to be sold at McGuireâs. I took my grandmothers ring in to be appraised by McGuireâs. The reviews seemed solid enough and the appraisal itself was done at 175$. A month later I took the ring into McGuireâs to be sold to help with a dental procedure I need done. It was given to my mother and I for emergencies in case money became tight. They appraised the ring around $5,500 to $5,800.
It takes two weeks for the owner to decide the cash value they will offer you regarding the diamond. Two weeks had approached and I had not received any updates. I called inquiring about why it was taking longer than usual and was told the owner had an emergency come up. Totally acceptable. They called me two days later and offered me a cash value of 700$ dollars.
This offer told me they found me desperate for the cash because I called after the two week period. Two weeks was the designated time until the ring was given an offer to me. A receipt was given to me with a date telling me the offer date. I was given an estimate of 40-50% cash value of the rings appraisal value.
The level of disrespect from these people was abysmal. When they called me and told me the offer I was in shock. I couldnât even respond to the woman who called me. She quickly rushed me off the phone telling me to pick up the ring next opening day or accept the offer. I couldnât get one word in.
If you value your jewelry and do not want the bare minimum given back for it i recommend not coming to this establishment. I did not accept...
