,Macy's Southcenter. Christmas Eve. 12/24 approx. 5 pm (they closed at 6 pm) I entered the store on the lower level. They have a children's dept., athletic shoes, and other random depts. Down there. Wow, what a nightmare! The children's dept literally looked like something out of a comedy movie where people were going crazy over items. Entire racks of clothes appeared to have been just thrown up in the air. There's no excuse for customers to treat merchandise that way. Macy-s should be ashamed of allowing any part of their store to be so badly in need of attention. I dont know if all the dept were as bad as children's on the clearly understaffed floor. Up to the next level for a men's cologne purchase. Two men behind the Sauvage (their spelling) just stood there a foot away from me talking. I asked for a spray card which I was given, and they just walked away. I managed to get someone else attention as I was told we were closing. I said you're not closed. I want to purchase this item. I guess I should have buffed up better because I was immediately told they were some out of the smaller bottle. I informed the the larger at $178 was okay, and she looked at the children's I had and said, you can't pay for those here. I said that fine ill pay for them downstairs. I had to maneuver to another counter to finish the sale for some reason. I remember when the men and women at the cosmetics counters all looked kinda classy or at least well put together, hair, make-up, clothing-not anymore. I felt like my time spent with the salesperson (less than five mins) where I spent about $400 she was doing me a favor. I usually like Macy's but this time,...
Read moreThis is and has always been one of the main anchor stores for Southcenter mall. It's a huge 4 level store. The bottom two floors consist of various clothing departments, and makeup, fragrance, and home are the top two floors.
There just don't seem to be very many sales associates available on the floor to help you until the holiday season rush. Probably to cut costs. I always have to walk half way across a level to find someone. There just is not very much emphasis put on assisting customers in the store. Probably because consumers can find info before they visit the store, the associates are no longer used to a lot of customer interaction.
I've actually been shopping online most of the time rather that in-store because the shipping is fast, free for purchases over $75, and they have great sales and online sales typically trump in-store, with better selection because they can pull from their national stock. You can have things shipped to this store location for free and then pick it up on the north side of the store right outside the bottom floor, or just have it shipped to your home.
Overall, the online shopping experience has trumped the in-store nowadays. The in-store experience seems to be taking a steady dip during the online shopping era. But I will give it 4 starts because Macy's has still held on to most of their in-store presentation and...
Read moreLots of variety for shoppers, but my review loses three stars for the customer service. Male cashier on the 4th floor (Level 3?) earlier today gave no direction for the transaction process and seemed aloof. This was my first time shopping at Macy's, and I was feeling anxious. He looked at me (next and only customer in line) and said nothing, so I awkwardly asked if he was available; he half-heartedly replied "Yeah." Approached, set down my items, was not directly addressed or acknowledged for the rest of the transaction while he was talking with a co-worker by his side. Received a bag I did not need (I'm used to asking customers if they would like one), but I'm a pushover and didn't want to tell him "no thank you" after it felt like I was already being a nuisance by being there. I had to ask if we were done. Another empty "Yeah" and I was out. While I absolutely understand how exhausting and draining customer service can be (as a retail worker myself), being dismissive towards customers is a huge "no" from how I've been trained. As mentioned earlier, this was my first time at Macy's. Would not—will not—recommend anyone to this store if every purchase feels like I'm a huge bother to the workers. Not asking for a red carpet or a huge smile, but I am asking that you try not to be cold towards customers. And to that cashier: I hope life...
