Great concept, great price, poorly executed unfortunately.
The concept behind the visually appealing place is great. The fresh trendy look of the greys, wood and concrete all mixed together makes this place feel unique and very high end as you pull up and walk into the door. This idea remains consistent throughout the hotel, into the rooms, and even with the staffs uniforms. The high end feel at such a great price makes you feel like you should have paid more for sure. The towels and toiletries in the rooms are nothing but top notch. The unique touches in the room were not only nice, but also functional such as the sliding door for the bathroom with a full length mirror on the door so you dont cover it up if the door was open.
Where I feel this place missed the mark are in some important areas that would seem to me due to a rush to open the place. As I stayed here on its 3rd week of being open, I feel that maybe some of the issues could still be addressed. First was the first moment of interaction. As we walked in and stood in line to be checked in, there was a disturbance from an individual who was removed from the property. As I am fully aware that these things can not be avoided, it was the next incident that peeked my attention. It was with a dissatisfied guest and while again not everything can be avoided, it made me instantly wonder what I was getting into. However the check in process was great and getting to my room was manageable. Second was some minor, yet noticable flaws. The clocks behind the front desk showing different times in different areas is a very cool concept however with no labeling, it just looked like 3 clocks with different times and added to just basic confusion. The idea of no directional signage I am sure was meant as a fresh look concept but it made the idea of the clocks confusing and then attempting to find the elevator even more confusing. Also, many of the lighting fixtures in the gorgeous dining area were obviously not put together properly. Something that I wasnt looking specifically at but as I ate, it jumped out to me. Also, the large bar area with the huge wall shelving was wonderful however only the middle sections were used and had all the bottles stuffed in them as if there wasnt enough room in the other areas. Lastly, and this is the one that made me give this review 3 stars, is the food. In a time where virtually 80 percent or more hotels at the same price point provide a complementary hot breakfast, this place not only charges for the breakfast, but a hefty price at that. I would have been fine with that as the room pricing was fair but paying for a breakfast that was worst than my children would bring to me on fathers day morning was disappointing. Every thing on my plate was burnt to a crisp. The potatoes looked as if they had been sitting in the grill since yesterday slowing burning to an inedible crisp. The bacon seemed as though it too had just been sitting on the grill all morning waiting for the next guest to slap it all together. All of this for 15 dollars.
So like I said, all things that can be fixed, but I feel that I should mention for the traveling person who wants to know...
Read moreThe staff of Hotel Interurban went above and beyond to provide top-calliber service and hospitality. Upon hearing it was our anniversary, the staff surprised us with a beautiful array of chocolates and a room closer to the elevator.
The had an extremely responsive valet service, although I do wish it was optional. Be prepared to spend $15 a night on parking. In Seattle this would make sense but in Renton I see this as a little bit of a grab. I would have paid for valet in my Porsche, but in my 2004 Mitsubishi Road Tripper, I would rather not have to have the valet take my car for overnight stays.
The price was fantastic though, and I found the room to be very well designed- on par with Hilton or Marriots in the same price range.
Accessibility and area was definitely another pro, easy to get to and easy to leave from. The hotel also offers a complimentary transit shuttle to the lightrail into Seattle if you'd rather not take your car. It's also near just about any kind of chain restaurant you could ask for, and a huge mall as well.
This would be an excellent hotel for families who want to stay somewhere less overwhelming than Seattle, but still close enough to visit if you'd like.
As great as the hospitality was, the hotel does need to look into maintenance. We went to visit the pool on two separate occasions and found it too cold to even put your feet in. I am an avid swimmer and have swam many polar swims, so this pool was actually kind of a mystery to me. Moreover, the actual pool room was littered with pool toys and the deck was very wet. I debated walking in to the (open) maintenance room and turning up the heat myself.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and we had a phenomal anniversary. I do feel that there is some marketing at play to hype the place up, but if you put the staff on the spot, they perform amazingly. Great front desk, cafe, valet attendants (not the older valet manager though, who makes your average stoner feel tons of anxiety because they're moving too slow for his liking.)
For the money, I chose to give it 5 stars. That being said, it's definitely on the edge and had the staff not accommodated me so well, I would be giving it a 4. Fix your pool, teach your management to be more patient (because their subordinates are doing a much better job) and make valet optional. You can argue back that it is optional, but 8 parking spots is not enough. Just make people park on the garage and charge them $5 rather than $15 for the upgraded valet. It feels insane to nickel and dime your clientele for the level of service you're...
Read moreThis hotel makes a great first impression with its modern exterior, stylish lobby, and inviting bar area. However, our experience left much to be desired. Here’s an honest breakdown: • Costs and Amenities: Parking is $15/day, and rooms average $170/night. You must use your room key to access the elevator, which adds security but can be inconvenient. There was no ice machine on our floor, and we had to call housekeeping for basic supplies like toilet paper and tissues. • Breakfast: While breakfast is included for two guests, the food was lukewarm and basic—French toast or pancakes, bacon or chicken sausage, eggs, potatoes, bagels, and oatmeal. Unfortunately, it’s dine-in only; you’re not allowed to take food to your room. Room service was similarly inconvenient—if you need cutlery, you’re required to pick it up yourself. • Work Environment: If you’re planning to work during your stay, this hotel may not be the best choice. The music in common areas is loud, there’s no dedicated business center, and the seating in the lobby is more suited for socializing than working. • Room Features: Rooms don’t include microwaves unless requested, and the café microwave is only available until 4 PM. The décor is basic, lighting is dull, and the TV lacks smart features—you’re stuck with a basic scroll menu and cable. • Customer Service Issues: The most frustrating part of our stay was being overcharged by $110 due to a misunderstanding about early check-in. We were told we needed to book a full extra night to check in at 7 AM (due to our early flight), which cost us $169. Upon arrival at 7:30 AM, we were told we’d been marked as a no-show, but instead of refunding the room charge, they waived a $50 early check-in fee. This could have been avoided with clearer communication. Attempts to resolve this with both the hotel and Expedia led to a frustrating back-and-forth, with neither party taking responsibility.
In summary, this hotel has style but lacks substance. While the public areas look appealing, the actual stay was disappointing due to poor service, hidden fees, and subpar amenities. I wouldn’t recommend it unless significant...
