I had been wanting to to see if the grocery items are really a bargain. Initially just from parking and looking at the outside, it looks like it would be a nice store. Upon entering I get a different feel. It's not that the store is not clean or anything like that, it's just not what I thought it would be. That's first but secondly I thought that I would be able to find "deals". That was not the case. At first I thought it was kind of cool where the tag showing the price of the item would show their price and then it would also say " their price ". And on the tags, "their" price was always more than their listed price which would indicate that you're getting a deal. I found that this is not the case though and you are not getting a deal. For example, and I have pictures of this, the starkist tuna that they have priced at the store is $1. 00 while below their tag it says " Elsewhere $1.79" Now that's not true and quite frankly I think that's kind of false advertising. Also the nasty cucumbers that they have they have listed at 79 cents . When you can buy them at Kroger for 10 cents more and actually get a nice cucumber . It's not worth it to go there. You can go to Kroger and pay the same price that they have listed for the same exact product. I saw stuff like this time and time again. Also online I saw that they have steaks. Initially I got kind of excited because I saw the prices but seeing the pictures online I thought okay they are not that great of quality or at least so it looks like, but I at least need to go check them out at the store to see if that's the case. If you're going to pay significantly less than sure you're not going to get the best of quality. I have pictures of this too, there packaged stakes, are worse than what is pictured. In fact I have never seen a steak look the way that they looked. It made me question if it's really a steak. Next, I found SEVERAL items to be in bad condition. The regular cucumbers that were not marked down, should have been marked down because they looked terrible. But then you have some that are marked down and those have mold on them! Pictures of this as well. Then they have some packages of Prosciutto. Prosciutto is NOT supposed to be Brown. We have all seen what old meat looks like. So for some reason they have packages sitting out there that are clearly old and they are not taking them off of the shelves and it makes me question why. So I have pictures showing what it's supposed to look like because they have some packages that are normal while they have others that are clearly not normal. If a person does not know any better, they will get sick. I can understand if this was one product here and there but this is several different items across the store. Initially I thought I found one or two items that I might like. But they were only like a 99 cent items which was fine. But after going through 3/4 of the store, I decided to stop it wasn't even worth going through the rest of the store and to not even buy the two nonsense items that were...
Read moreFinally checked them out yesterday. Eastgate is so badly in need of a new grocery option, given that the two main players currently available (Meijer and Kroger) are lack-luster, outdated stores with dingy atmospheres, uninspired offerings, and high prices. Sadly, Grocery Outlet doesn’t solve the problem. Pros: 1) there are some good deals….they are hit and miss. Their claim of across the board discounts is simply false. Many prices were the same or higher than Kroger/Meijer 2) The store was well organized and the staff was friendly 3) check out was well-staffed and quick Cons: 1) See #1 above. The savings are over-hyped 2) This is not a store where you can do a one-stop “big shop”. The fresh produce and meat offerings are small. There was a decided “stuff that fell off the truck this week” vibe….picture a much-upgraded Ollie’s with a much larger offering of groceries, including quite a few fresh foods and no expired stuff 3)They do not honor manufacturer’s coupons….only “in-house” coupons. Bottom line: I’ll be back if I need a few things that I expect them to have good prices on, but Eastgate STILL needs a high-quality, full-service grocery store to come in and offer an alternative to the mediocre choices...
Read moreI went here a little after the Grand Opening awhile back just to check it out. Yeah, they had some things that other stores didn't have, but there were very few items that were cheaper than others. Went to check out to pay for the two things that I was buying and the cashier did not give good customer service at all. She didn't acknowledge me, say hi, ask if this was everything. Instead, gave a bad attitude, didn't even say anything to me until I paid for my items and only told me how much I "saved.". Then hands me my receipt without even looking me in the eye, like, she was bothered that I was in her lane. If there is one thing I am huge on, it is customer service and hers was way below average. Other grocery chains, I have a great experience with the cashier's there, because, at least they appreciate our business. I found it very unprofessional and rude the way she was acting towards me and, who knows, other people as well. Apparently this kind of customer service is ok there, then I will not shop there and go somewhere where employees appreciate...
