A Cut Above The Rest — Local services in University City

I booked a hair cut through Groupon and got a great discount. I showed my barber "Doc" a couple pictures of the hairstyle I was going for and he said he could do it. Doc cut and styled my hair and explained different barber terminology I was curious about. We talked about the fashion trends and he told me I would be ahead of the crowd this summer.

edit: I went back without the Groupon discount and paid $4 more but had a worse experience. I was told "yeah, yeah, I know how to cut hair I've been doing it for 40 years." and "I really don't get why people show pictures of the haircut they want" after I had to stop the ol dude before he went to town loping all my hair off.

2nd edit: got several compliments on my haircut a couple days after coming by here even though he worked on my hair for less than 10 minutes. weird. I have mixed feelings...

My experience with Marge here is worth five stars. I have been going to her for about 15 years and have always been happy. The only reason for going down to four stars is that she moved to this shop a few years ago and it's not nearly as nice as when she had her own place. However, her clientele has followed her, and I am one of them. She is very patient and does just what you want. She serves a large number of very old clients and her service to them is remarkable - she is very sensitive to her clients' needs. She does a good modern cut with blow dry, but she can also do the old-fashioned wash-and-set under a hair dryer and make the older generation happy. I believe she would work with anyone to satisfy their needs, and she has the skills to do a good job. Don't be put off by the dingy appearance...

The barbers here do a great job. I was a customer of Rachel's when she worked at a chain barbershop and I followed her because of how great of a job she does. I am picky about my hair and took over 3 years to find a barber I liked in St Louis and she is probably the best barber I've had anywhere.

She always asks a ton of questions to make sure your hair is exactly as you like it and is always willing to keep working until you are happy. She'll even offer to help you with styling and product recommendations to make sure you get the look you want. You'll get better service here then you will at a high end salon and you'll get it at a great price. Can't...
