On March 3rd, we decided to go to dinner at Yen Ching Restaurant in Brentwood, MO. We ordered our food, and was brought out our two appetizers. After receiving our appetizers, our 8 year old daughter fell out of her chair and proceeded to have a seizure. The servers asked if they should call 911, and tried to assist. However, during the chaos and scary feeling of trying to take care of our daughter they still insisted on bringing us our check. My husband and our 2 other daughters were rushing our daughter to the car so we can go to the ER, while I'm being asked to pay our bill of $38 for the appetizers. Instead of just telling us to go and take care of our daughter who was obviously in distress the host was more concerned about me paying our bill. We were not expecting a free meal, but we just feel that we shouldn't have had to waste time paying for appetizers while we were scared to death and concerned for our child. I believe most business owners in that situation would have told us to take care of our child, and worry about paying the bill later. We are the type of people who would have made sure to call later to take care of what we owed. It was very disheartening that we didn't feel that our child's life and health was more important to them than a $38 check. We want the community to know the type of establishment that Yen Ching is, and we wanted to express how disgusted we are with their actions. Especially finding out our daughter had to have emergency brain surgery for a...
Read moreI SO want this place to be 5 star great. I have eaten here in the past and the food is not bad. The problem is 3 of the last 5 times I have tried to get food here, they have turned me away. Last night I tried to call in and order at 745 (Google shows they close at 9). So I drove over there on my way home and walked in at 750. The guy there tells me that due to Covid they close at 8. I said I tried to call at 745, he looked at me angrily and said very curtly "That's right". As i started to ask something else he again cut me off and said "That's right". The whole time the phone was ringing and being ignored. His demeanor became somewhat threatening.
Of course, now that restriction for Covid are relaxed, his reasoning holds no water. Just tell me you don't feel like staying open. And, if you care, get your Google local info correctly published. His comments also don't explain why they won't answer the phone even during the hours he said they are open.
Other times I have come (even pre-covid) I would try to go for lunch and they just closed randomly that day. Clearly from the reviews, there are some great food options and people that come in at times other than 60% of the times I have come there are able to get a meal. I don't find it necessary to try to fight with a restaurant to let me buy their food.
If anyone reading this knows from experience of another restaurant that has good sizzling rice soup, please post in the...

Almost 35 years later, the warmth and character of Yen Ching Restaurant remain. My recent visit on Monday, 11/26/2018, for lunchtime dining was special. My party of two was met immediately upon entering (at noon) by two dapper, hospitable gentleman that seated us. It wasn't until I noticed the framed photographs of celebrities/guests adorning the walls, that Mr. "J", (owner/manager), a constant in each photograph, was himself seating US!!! Super special! Our meals (1) Orange Peel Shrimp Lunchtime Special & (2) Spicy Chicken, served over white rice, were amazing! Portion sizes were impressive. There was even enough for a take-home container! Cost was a mere $27.90 combined! Service is unmatched! Seating is available for maybe 50 ppl. Get there early bcuz Yen Ching Restaurant fills quickly at lunchtime. (There were 7 ppl waiting to be seated when we left). We're sure to return on our next visit to the metropolitan St. Louis area! Say, "Hello!", to Mr. "J" when...
