As a new MTG player, I've had mixed experiences at Prowess Gaming. My last 3 visits, however, have convinced me to take my business elsewhere.
I would like to start out by saying the owner is very knowledgeable, has a passion for the game and offers a great space for the community to shop and play the game.
However, I sincerely hope he can afford to hire more help in the future due to his inability (or flat-out refusal) to multitask while engaged in other business. This crucial weakness manifests itself in a pattern of neglecting to greet potential customers, forcing new or existing customers to wait unreasonably long amounts of time to make simple transactions, and presenting a general air of annoyed dismissal when "interrupted" by someone who's merely trying to give him their hard-earned money.
For anyone who's looking for a friendly and personalized experience, I would recommend checking out the Toy Vault at the Crystal Mall. If you're looking for the best prices while being attended to by knowledgeable staff who are willing to at the very least give you the time of day, Citadel Game Center in Groton won't disappoint.
I really hope this business makes it, and in my opinion it won't take much for it to become a premier gaming destination for old and new...
Read moreI have mixed feelings after reading the reviews after visiting the store.
On one hand I had a pretty good experience, especially being able to go through cards that some places just have locked away and only can be bought online. Sure it did take a bit of time for the owner to price said cards but I understand it's only him and he was also helping other customers at the same time so can't complain there. Loved how he even spoke with people when there wasn't anything going on.
The one thing that I'm iffy about is how people are calling him a scalper who goes to big box stores that buys TCG product and resells at higher prices. I would just normally ignore those reviews if it was just one person saying it but it's multiple people. So take those reviews how ever you much you trust them.
My main issue is that they don't have events posted online anywhere, which would be nice. Additionally, the place is still listed on the Crystal Mall website lol.
Besides that, I would totally come back despite not being a local person to the area with an almost 35 minute ride...
Read moreProwess Gaming has become my go-to spot for all things Magic: The Gathering, and I’ve brought all my friends here too. Nilly really makes the place shine—he’s welcoming, knowledgeable, and just a genuinely great guy. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned player, he’s always happy to chat, offer advice, or help you find exactly what you need.
The shop itself has everything: sealed product, singles, accessories—you name it. The atmosphere is super laid-back and inviting, which is why I love bringing my friends here. They all feel right at home, and we’ve had some great times hanging out, trading cards, and participating in the weekly events.
Prowess Gaming isn’t just a shop; it’s a community. If you’re into Magic or any other TCG, it’s the best place to connect with other players and just have...
