Employees, even management made me feel like I was inconveniencing them when asking for help. The manager even told me to go to Walmart.
It all started when I asked about a humidifier that was out of stock. The first guy who helped me was nice. He went to check stock and came back with a women who told me they would sell the display model to me but could not discount it. No big deal but I did want a humidifier that night so while both employees were standing there I asked about another unit. The women scanned the bar code on the shelf and told me they just got three more of these shipped in today. She said if my wife and I had more shopping to do she could try to go find the newly shipped unit. She explained the it could take more then thirty minutes or more and she may get pulled away so asked if we could come back tomorrow. I explained that we were here for a humidifier now and it is very dry where we live and my wife had a bloody nose last night. The women said she would go look for them but couldn't guaranty she wouldn't get pulled away. She said if she does find them she will stock them on the shelf. I asked if she could have it held at the register so we could buy it on our way out. She explained that the register on that end will be closed. After the long interaction with this employee that I couldn't have begged to just help me by finding the item I wanted. I went to the front of the store and spoke with the manager on duty. My wife told the whole story to her and she asked if we wanted to fill out a comment card. I declined. All I wanted was a humidifier! She explained I should go to Walmart to get one. The one in the shipping department that was way too inconvenient for...
Read moreI am outraged by my experience at the Menards in West Bend. It appears that some employees are allowed to engage in harassment, discrimination, and the use of slurs toward their coworkers without facing consequences. This seems to happen with the approval or inaction of the General Manager (GM), especially if the offending employee is on good terms with them.
Despite multiple reports from the victim of verbal abuse, discriminatory language, and even threats, management, including the GM, has failed to take any meaningful action. Instead, when the victim finally stands up for themselves, they are penalized—terminated for "threatening an employee"—while the offending employee faces no repercussions.
I am aware of one floor manager who fought for the victimized employee, standing up for fairness and justice. However, after the GM made the decision to terminate the employee, that floor manager has now quit. Interesting to say the least.
Furthermore, there are concerns about how complaints are handled. Stories of incidents, supposedly documented on a legal pad, seem to "disappear," leaving victims without a voice and without justice.
If you are considering working at the West Bend Menards, be aware that this workplace culture might not support victims of harassment. It’s incredibly disheartening to see management fail to uphold basic standards of fairness and respect.
It makes me wonder if Menards corporate is aware of these types of GMs and management practices but chooses to sweep them under the rug because it’s easier than addressing...
Read moreI recently visited the paint department and talked to a guy named Jeff. I asked him if he had Kilz primer as I needed a little more to finish my garage. He said they did not. I then asked which Latex paint would hold up the best. He told me I could not put Latex over any oil based primer and if I did it would just fall off. He suggested I use Rustoliem and did not have any other paint that would work. I thought this was strange because when I bought the Kilz at home depot they said I could use any latex as a topcoat. He assured me he gets training and all his vendors say no latex over oil. I was very nice to him and concluded I need to do some research on this. When I got home I did the research and discovered he had it completely backwards. Upon returning to the paint department the next day he was there again. He looked up and never looked up again during our conversation. I tried to explain my findings but he just kept saying I don't know anything about kilz and I go through training every year. Then I asked which latex was the best and he mumbled Dutchboy something and pointed to the wall. He was very rude to me and offered no assistance at all. I think he knew he was wrong but was too proud to admit it. I was so upset at how I was treated that I went to Home Depot where they confirmed what I thought and mixed up a perfect color matched latex that looks awesome and wow did not fall off. I still love Menards but will definitely be going across the street for my paint...
