ā¼ļøI would NOT recommend POC shop hereā¼ļø
Itās 2025, and I canāt believe this is still happening. Yesterday, my sister and I went to the Sally Beauty in Westland. This was supposed to be a fun experience, Iām dying my hair for the first time and was really excited.
From the moment we walked in, the energy felt off. A male employee didnāt greet us, but we brushed it off and started browsing. Most of the hair dye is located right at the front of the store. As soon as he finished helping another customer, he came over and started scanning items right next to us. At first, I thought nothing of it, Iāve worked retail before and know employees sometimes need to scan or restock. But he never once asked if we needed help.
When we moved to another aisle, more customers came in. He was quick to assist them, but not us. When we circled back to the hair dye, my sister noticed he kept watching us while helping others. Once they walked away, he literally stood behind my sister, just staring. Then he moved to her side, twisting bottles right next to us without saying a word. It was so obvious he was following us, waiting to see if weād take something.
This store is SO small, and every time we went near the hair dye, he followed. Not once did he ask if we needed assistance, even though he could clearly hear us struggling to choose a color. He ignored us, but eagerly helped others.
We eventually checked out, I spent $90 on products I now wish I had bought elsewhere. At first, we laughed it off, but later it sank in: still in 2025, Black shoppers and other people of color are still being profiled and followed in stores. Itās sad, uncomfortable, and unacceptable!
This was supposed to be a fun memory with my sister. Instead, it was a reminder of the discrimination that still exists. Even at a freaking Sally Beauty SMH.
For additional context, it was Sunday, my sister was dressed nicely coming straight from church, and I had on simple workout clothes. We werenāt loud, we werenāt acting suspicious, and we definitely didnāt ālook a certain way.ā There was no reason for him to monitor us that closely. Especially since he wasn't doing it to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame in late last night before they closed to grab some products. Sammy was the only one there and she seemed irritated, like everything was an inconvenience to her. But today I went back to return the extra products I didnāt use and someone else was there helping me with my return and needed further assistance. So Sammy came over and didnāt communicate just started touching the screen and telling the girl she was doing it wrong saying ā you canāt click the first thing you see and I hate when you guys do thisā the girl was simply asking for help. She then walked away and said whatever but the girl actually did the correct thing and didnāt do it wrong. Some advice to you Sammy, maybe be less rude to your co workers and find a different job if you donāt have customer service or patience to help someone. We all work when we donāt want to but treating people like that is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBig thank you to the girlie that helped me both times I stopped in! I used a hair gloss that was mistakenly way too dark for me. It turned my hair black and I desperately wanted to lighten it up without any intense damage. The sally worker was so helpful and sweet - picked me out some clarifying items, and a new dye. I came back in a week later (after using the clarifying items) and the same employee helped me pick out a lighter color (as the clarifying shampoo and treatments worked like a dream, and made it significantly lighter!) and hooked me up with some additional products to make sure the color holds. Iām in LOVE with my new color (used the darker dye on the roots, and the lighter throughout). It turned out absolutely stunning, and Iām so grateful for Sallyās for helping me reverse my hair disaster and giving...
