The Powers That Be at Westland Shopping Center has really classed up the place. There is now a larger variety of stores, like Ulta and Charming Charlie, and Victoria's Secret has done a wonderful job remodeling. I was depressed over the closing of Macy's, but there are plenty of places to shop for clothes.
That said, I have to be honest. I'm disabled, use a wheelchair, and have some complaints. The mall needs to be more accessible. I enter the shopping center at the entrance by Ulta and Charming Charlie. The doors do not automatically open, nor do they have a button which opens the doors when pressed. I can open a door on my own, but not every disabled person can, and, being frank here, there are plently of self-absorbed monied teens and yound adults who will get a good look at you then slam the door in your face.
Many stores in the mall do not have accessible fitting rooms. When I complain, I am often patronised and told that they are pleased to hear "from a different perspective." Store with wheelchair accessible fitting rooms often put non-disabled customers in them, leaving me to wait until an ablebodied customer tries on ten items while several smaller rooms are open. Again, I am thanked for my "unique perspective" and nothing changes.
There is also the issue of accessible parking. There is simply not enough of it. Every time I come when the mall is busy, all the spots are taken, some by ablebodied mothers with strollers who deny noticing the blue lines and the accessible parking sign planted high enough that it is visible to the driver (there's a law). If I can't find a parking spot, I am forced to park at the far end of the lot and hope no one parks next to me, negating my best laid plans, or left to use a friend to complete a parking manouever that involves pulling only a quarter of a way in, unloading the wheelchair, driving all the way into the spot, then limping to my wheelchair. It's not a safe trick, but I can't just go home when I need something. If I feel unsafe doing that, or am annoyed, I will go elsewhere. More accessible ("handicapped") spots are needed, badly, and security should be out on the lookout for people parked in spots without a disabled license plate or placard, and the police summoned for ticketing. If I can't park, I can't shop; if I can't shop, I'm not buying clothes, perfume, or jewellery and making the mall money.
Lastly, there is a nail salon at this mall. I have been there and have observed health code violations. The manicurists cut cuticles, which is a no-no for manicures. They use old, clearly dirty nail brushes at the sinks to clean of your nails, and they hire non-nail techs to do gel manicures, etc. There are more complaints, like their equipment sterilising techniques, but I feel I've made my point.
Westland Shopping Center has a number of wonderful stores, and plently to do. But I had to mark down the shopping center for the above reasons. The Americans with Disabilities act makes equal treatment of disabled people compulsory. Much of the center is accessible. But the parking situation alone...
Read moreTo be honest I've never been a complete fan of Westland mall due to the fact that there's no food courts inside the mall. I honestly would go more often if there was food courts. Yes I know there's a restaurant inside the mall and a few surrounding the mall. Buts its something about food court food. Its like going to a fair and getting the fair food. It should be part of the experience. Which is why I frequent fairlane, but Westland mall has a charm to it that kinda makes you wish it had the things you need so you can just go there instead of the other malls. But if I want to shop with my kids I have to have a food court option. The shops come as fast as they go. You kinda hold your breath and hope the shop you was in last time is still there. The revolving door for businesses makes it hard to be a repeat customer. With me being one of the few people who'd still rather be able to physically shove for something instead of online, its becoming more increasingly obvious that thats where the world is headed and it just might be a time where family shopping has become a thing of the past. Malls used to be vibrant and full of life. Like Westland they are mostly just a ghost of what was. Malls used to be a place teens hung out and got the cutest outfits and spent the day eating and shopping. Now its just a few random stores sprinkled here and there. Its really sad the actual potential these places still have but its like no one cares as long as the rent got paid at the price they want it paid at. Malls will go extinct if there isn't a rebranding. This mall will definitely not last another 10 years if they don't work on business's...
Read moreThe experience at foot locker was one to write for corporate and maybe a lesson in customer service could be instructed. My mom brought a pair of shoes for my daughter in which she did not like them, however she had disposed of the shoe box.
Upon entering the store the young attended greeted me nicely. However once we came to the cash register another worker had a very disdain look when she could see that I didn't have the shoe box. The guy insisted that they could not refund or exchange the shoe secondary to not having the box. I explained what the receipt states and it did not mention a box and he he implied you must have the box.The female attendant stated it was common sense tonhave the box in order to return. I replied again that the receipt does not state that and would like to speak to the manager . The assistant manager even suggested I try to resell the shoes online. I thanked him and again asked for the manager.
Upon the manager coming over and already being briefed of the situation he greeted me with huffs and muffs from his mouth and proceeded to pick up the shoes and slam them on the counter angrily stating he will have to zero these shoes out and he could not sell them without a box. I stood their and listened to him grumble as I just wanted my return. He proceeded with the return provided me with my money and tossed the shoes on the back counter.
This experience was horrible and unfortunate when consumers spend money and are treated unkindly. I will never return to this store or another foot locker. Some of the staff acted like the shoe return was going to cause them to lose their jobs, Which I...
