The Cake Box — Local services in Westport

I would not recommend the cake box for special occasions. While the cupcakes are yummy, their reliability and customer service is horrendous. I ordered mini cupcakes for my daughter's 1st birthday which were great. For a separate party I ordered a large and expensive cake and cupcake. The cake was the WRONG color. I was initially given excuses, but then even the staff on site acknowledged that the color was wrong. No one seemed apologetic. I had matched all my decor (cake topper, high chair decor etc.) to the correct color. They weren't able to provide a replacement cake that day. Initially they offered to give me a gift card which I declined. Why should I pay for a cake that is the WRONG color! Then, in speaking with the manager he said 'so you want to keep the cake, and get a full refund. You need to pick one or the other.' I lost it! My daughter's 1st birthday party was in 1.5 hours. This was their mistake and the cake I was relying on. Where was I supposed to get a cake to feed 15+ people in an hours time. Eventually I got them to refund me, however, the owner hung up on me! I really was excited for the cake and I really wanted to love it. The icing was great and not so sweet. The cake, though, was overcooked and dry. The cake was difficult to cut. My daughter couldn't cut into her own cake. I needed to get a bigger and sharper knife. When I cut into it, the slices wouldn't hold together. You could see the dryness of the cake and a tough, burnt crust. The cake was so tough, my mom wiped the icing off and dunked it into her coffee.

This bakery made my 50th birthday special, even in COVID-19 quarantine. We ordered 7 gluten-free cupcakes of different flavors and a gluten-free pizza dough, and they were the highlights of the weekend. All the cupcakes were delicious, but to me, their coconut, chocolate, and the deep chocolate ganache on the traditional birthday cake cupcake were the best. And the gluten-free dough was really tasty: it's a little more cracker-like than dough-like (perfect for all you Colony Pizza fans out there), but it held up to the sauce and cheese really well and baked perfectly according to the instructions that came with it.
