Orley Shabahang Persian and Oriental Rugs — Local services in Whitefish Bay

Recently, we brought some rugs to Orley Shabahang Store in Whitefish Bay to be cleaned. They were very careful and did a beautiful job on the rugs. They use a natural cleaning product to not harm the rug colors and are allergy free. I also purchased new rug pads for the rugs which were nice quality. The owner was very knowledgeable about different kinds of rugs, rug cleaning and pleasant to work with.

Another day, we were back in their store picking up the rugs and spoke with the owner’s daughter, who was also very pleasant and provided excellent service. We inquired about a rug for a family member. The owner’s daughter was very knowledgeable and provided good information about the different options without making me feel pressured. She showed us a variety of interesting collections and designs of Persian & Oriental, Tribal, & Kilim rugs. She was resourceful looking for great colors to work with for the rest of the decor. The rugs were good quality too.

The store was very clean and charming with its Architectural Design and moldings. It is conveniently located at the corner of East Silver Spring Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard in Whitefish Bay.

The owner, Bahram Shabahang, is an extremely kind man with innumerable wonderful stories about the rich history of Iran and its people (better than any documentary you will ever watch). He has a degree in architecture, which is easily discerned when he begins talking to you about the rugs. He takes the time to try to really understand your individual style and steers you towards rugs that he believes you will connect with and hopefully love for years to come. He can instantly tell you the inspiration behind each and every single rug he carries, and is quick to credit and praise the individual rug makers that have made them for him. Listening to him tell you the history and background behind the rugs is ninety percent of the experience.

Price is not the determining factor here for him to sell you a rug. His goal is not to sell you the highest priced rug, but rather to appreciate the workmanship and history behind each rug as much as he does. I am so delighted with our experience at Orley Shabahang! My husband and I had been looking for a new rug for our living room. Shirin was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and patient. She and her team worked hard to roll out several extra large (heavy!) rugs for us to choose from and brought our favorite options to our home to try them out in our space. Shirin understood our budget and really worked with us to find just the right choice. We selected one of her father’s own designs and are thrilled with the beauty, caliber and quality. They have long standing relationships with Persian weavers and even their own herd where they source the wool. It will not fade, cleans up beautifully and holds up to the rigors of our children and dog.
