Terrible customer service and faulty products. The two owners will not stand behind the quality of their products if they sell you something defective. They shift blame for bad products onto consumer. I went in to buy a gift I gave to a friend for her birthday, she found out immediately that the product was defective. We went together to kindly ask for an exchange or replacement and the two owners went immediately on the defensive, shifting the blame for their sub-par product onto us. I work in retail and accommodate customer's needs every day. Needless to say, their rude behavior and pathetic excuses made shopping at Barouke the single worst retail experience I've ever had. Total disappointment.
Reply to owner's reply- Well, other than the evidence of the appearance I made in the store and my conversation with both of the owners present means the two of you have feeble memories. I cannot help it if you don't create customer transaction histories in your point of sale software. I work in retail and I know what my customers purchased and when they purchased it, so I read your latest remark as just another excuse in regards to your inadequate attempts at customer service. SO helpfully this will jog your memories. I completed my purchase on March 7, 2014, so look at your credit card slips from that date. The transaction amounted to $292.11 for the purchase of two items: a wooden inlay of a sailboat with a mother of pearl flag, just like the exact replacement you have sitting at the register now titled "Sailing with Friends" and an olive wood goblet. Both I gave as gifts. In early April, I came in with my friend, also a boutique shop owner and we complained to the male and female owners about the faulty, leaky cup. The female replied " you must have purchased that years ago," when I had been in less than a month previously. So she clearly has no idea what she is talking about and is used to making up false excuses on the spot. The man, with white hair and mustache, who sold the two pieces to me and looked me in the face less than three weeks earlier replied to my complaint with, "I never actually said it would work." Seriously?! And there is no evidence I was in the store to make a purchase, despite my two appearances and the signed credit card receipt you will find in your files from March 7? Please, your contemptible and fraudulent business practices are...
Read moreLast month while on vcation in Cape Fear, North Carolina, we visited Barouke, The Woodcrafters Gallery in Wilminton. We bought a beautiful hand made and signed wall clock. It was made of historic barn wood wih copper and brushed steel accents. A few weeks later we arrived back home, mounted the clock on the wall, and as luck would have it, our gorgeous clock was as dead as a doornail!
While we were sure we would have to ship it back to NC, we took a chance and called their phone #. The guy who answered the phone ws amazing! He spent nearly a half hour carefully guiding us step by step to check the mechanism and battery, connect the pendulum, re-set the time and mount the clock correctly on the wall. And even more amazing, our phone call was after 8PM in the evening! Try to get that kind of customer support at a big box store!

Read moreWe have been to Barouke Exotic Woods a number of times and enjoyed browsing the wide variety of products in the store. We recently purchased a console table for our home. The standard sizes in stock were just not quite right for the space in our home we had identified. The owner, Jannett Vadies, offered to speak with her vendor to see if a table in an appropriate size could be made for us. We provided a set of measurements and after a few minor adjustments recommended by her vendor/craftsman, we agreed on a size customized to our requirements. We received the table in short order and it looks great in our home - Terrific...
