I love museums and galleries, and in recent times, I have been looking for something more manageable since I am not always able to walk as far or as long as other friends and family members. I want to mention this for any visitors who may bring along an elderly relative or someone with an illness or restrictions to their movements.

With this in mind, I must say this museum was comfortable and easy to navigate. I couldn't believe they didn't charge entry but simply recommended donations. I think it's worth the trip and donations to keep this valuable resource in the community! By the way, they have a store where I honestly had to stop myself from buying too many things.

As far as the art being showcased this season, it had interesting installations and interactives from 16 artists. I felt it called upon our curiosity and open-mindedness to observe and understand some of the topics woven through the art. I will admit this was a good experience for me because I'm not typically a fan of contemporary art.

I wanted to open myself up to new experiences. Trying to understand what some artists are trying to bring to our attention made for a good afternoon and great conversation after my husband and I left. I look forward to checking out upcoming exhibits this year and maybe visiting during...

Large space with rotating collection of local and regional artists. When I was there, they had a special exhibit of art done one a day (with varying degrees of quality) along with a cash bar and a crowd attending the late-night event. Some of the art was stupendous, including an oil painting and some etchings/collage I thought about long after I left. Some of the art was "less accessible," but not as much of the brow-scratching sort you often see in galleries designated as "contemporary." The art was also for sale, and at prices surprisingly within reach of a middle-class art fan, considering how excellent the quality. There are studio spaces on other levels which have been rented out to artists, some of whom have been there for years. When I attended, it was open house so you could see the artists at work. I believe some of the spaces are still...

Edit: After seeing the gallery owner's message below, I am changing my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Also, my husband had a conversation with the gallery owner who was apologetic. We will visit again in the future and I look forward to giving a higher rating at that time . Awful experience! Doing some site seeing with out of town family and decided to stop by on a whim. Apparently, the gallery was setting up for a wedding during REGULAR business hours; tables of food already set out. My family was followed throughout the gallery by security. Was interested in buying some art from gift shop, but when asking about the price of a clock was flippantly told "$100, maybe $200". Who says that to a paying customer? Will never set foot in that...

šŸ“the delaware contemporary | the camera fr does not do this justice it was even cooler in person. i’ve been watching @lace_in_the_moon for a long time now, so this was so awesome to see in real life… and the strings all going into the computer like tons of wires… so sick. honestly made this whole exhibit 30x better with such a simple yet creative detail. anyway i’ll stop being a crochet grandma fangirl now, but i’m sure some of yous will appreciate this as much as i did #crochet #crochettiktok #thedelawarecontemporary

This museum was absolutely spectacular. I was there for about an hour and a half, most people might spend an hour or less. This was my first visit and i loved all of the art displayed. There were 3D pieces, big and small paintings, puppets, it was so cool. Not only was the art displayed neatly and easy to navigate, but admission was free!! Also, the staff today were extremely friendly i love them. They greeted me with giant smiles, genuine care, and gave me information about the current displays and how they would change along with a pamphlet that gave information about the artists. I would definitely visit here again.
