This is not everyone's kind of bar. Avoid it if you're allergic to dogs, or if you want to watch a game (there is a TV but it's usually muted or set to soccer), or if you want to get drunk and eat greasy food.
There's also a lot of wine & scotch, but I can't speak to the selection as I don't drink either.
Dog friendly. There's a big ole black lab running around, very friendly. Tries to be a lapdog, so be careful if you sit on a low couch! Don't go if you're very allergic to dogs! You can also bring your own dog.
Clean. The shelves are dusted regularly. There isn't tons of dog hair around, which is what you'd expect for a bar with a dog. The bathroom is immaculate.
Knowledgeable proprietor. Older reviews paint him as a snobby guy. He does talk a lot but he's very approachable, and doesn't judge people who aren't as obsessed with alcohol. I mentioned two beers I really like and asked for a recommendation and he gave me a great one without sneering about it.
Good bar food. Spicy South Indian food at lunch. I love this stuff.
Nice decor. Low couches and benches to lounge on, very cozy.
Quiet atmosphere. I don't really like loud places. There aren't big tables, so you can't have a party of 3 sit together easily. While I was there a businessman gave a small presentation to his two colleagues on his laptop. He didn't have to yell over music.
Wifi. 'nuff said. It's amazing how many bars DON'T have wifi.
No students! Mostly a professional crowd, instead of loud and drunk twenty somethings. The clientele takes their cues from the owner and are...
Just stopped in the other night for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Greeted by the friendly dog and the owner. Had a couple of drinks at the bar and the bar tender (I think Mike) was very friendly and made you feel welcomed. Had a couple of scotch drinks that I never tasted before and Mike let me have a small free taste of a couple more so I could then buy a bottle next door. It's great taste testing before spending a lot of money on Scotch. Other patrons were friendly and it's a comfortable place to start up a conversation with someone you've never met. Warm, relaxing atmosphere. Reminds me of little bars found in Philly or New York. Prices may be a bit higher than your average bar but that's to be expected with great service and style that you can't find going to a strip mall liquor store or Wild Wings. One other thing to mention (and some may take this as a good OR bad thing) but there is no TV anywhere in the lounge or bar area. Music was playing in the background softly enough to talk without yelling. So if you're going to watch a game then you may have to look elsewhere. Although I enjoyed not having the TV because it encourages you to engage in an actual conversation with someone. FYI-there is a Spa/hair salon next door so a perfect excuse to take the wife/girlfriend and treat them to a manicure while you enjoy the next door...
