Wife took her laptop in with a bad charging port. She told them we both have the same laptops and her charging port was bad and we knew it was the port as the charge pack worked fine for my laptop, just not hers. These are $1300 MSI GF75Thin95c with more ram and ssd added aka not cheap and quite capable laptops. I only mention this because of what the staff said, you'll see if you read on. Look at my reviews and you'll see I rarely give bad reviews and tend to give the benefit of the doubt.
My wife was the only customer in the store. There were two males and a female staff member inside. Orginally a male was helping her and he was freindly.. except he complained about the laptop being plastic.. and how he'd never would have bought it and complained about a piece under a part that the manufacturer used.. which he stated he had no idea about.. yes he said that. Which totally inspired confidence with my wife.. NOT. He continued with random talking down about my wife's laptop while removing a few simple screws. While he was looking at it the female staff member walked over, leaned down and claimed to hear a buzz noise.. which according to her meant it needed a new mother board đ¤Śââď¸. She told my wife it was "at minimum $700 for the part.. if they could find it". The female walked over to the company computer then a few minutes later walked down the hallway. My wife assumed she was still helping as the laptop was taken a part and on the counter still. But she never said anything about getting the part. The male was trying to figure it out and was nice, my wife's only complaint about him was he just continued to complain about the build of the laptop. The male had to ask the female about the part which apparently they couldn't get. Why she didn't say that before she walked off, I have no idea. She then offered to look more for a $30 fee.. but she wasn't sure why as they probably couldn't do anything about it. All of this nonsense took 40 minutes for no real reason.. and it wasn't even put back together.
The next day I took the laptop to another local computer repair store who within 3 minutes told me the port was soldered on and they couldn't do it, but they told me to go to CPR Cellphone Repair. I went to CPR and within 10 minutes the staff memeber told me they could micro solder the port, but it was on the other side and would have to remove the board to gain access to the soldered area. He checked me in and told me this all within 1/4 of the time it took Affordable to do nothing.
Here's the best part, the new port was $60.. not "$700 minimum". There is absolutely no way I would trust them to look at anything ever again. I am only giving 2 stars as the male was trying to help and was freindly. He actually thought it might be the port, but because the female was so adamant about it being something else he simply gave into...
Read moreThis is the best repair shop in town. I normally feel as if they give five star service, and they did well this time. I'm frustrated that when my old computer started having issues after I upgraded to Windows 10, I was told to purchase an external hard drive for $100. Within several months, I was having problems again and had to have the computer rebuilt. When I took the tower home, after being told I was good to go, the monitor cord did not fit into the tower. It took me several days and a lot of frustration--going back in for adapters to try and finally taking photos of my monitor and its cord--to get a cord that worked so I didn't have to get a new monitor. Meanwhile, I spent quite a few days without my desktop and had to view meetings on my small phone or use a friend's desktop.
To be fair, my computer was old, probably from 2012, and I had gotten my use from it. Also, they had been trying to repair it when it suddenly froze in the last check they did before returning it to me. Then I was hit with a bill for rebuilding it. Now, it works fine and is much faster.
Sometimes, even with three people in the shop, they can be busy. Today, I went over to to return the adapters they offered me at no charge and to pick up the cord that worked, swapping it out with the old one that I have no use for. When I saw the shop crowded with other customers, I stepped outside and waited for someone to leave. To my delight, Mary stepped outside, handing me the new cord and taking the adapters! She is excellent and truly "gets" customer service. Her coworkers are good at what they do, but I think Mary really cares and excels at service. She was the one who emailed me back and forth, asking for pictures of the ports on my monitor.
Normally, I would give this shop 5 stars. Nearly all of my other business with them has been superb. Had I been told that I needed to have my computer rebuilt when Windows 10 was installed with an explanation of how old my computer was, I would have saved $100 on the external hard drive, which I'm now told I don't need. Also, had the technician who rebuilt my computer checked to see the difference in the type of monitor port and advised me of it, I could have had my computer back functioning three or four days sooner with far less inconvenience on my part.
Bottom line is that I think they really try. At times they seem swamped with work, and when that happens to anyone, improvements can be made. I've learned from this experience, and I hope the Geeks will as well. As I wrote, they have helped me and several of my friends in the past and are generally very helpful and reliable. For most computer concerns, if you live in Winter Haven, this is the place to go, and I will continue to do business with them...
Read moreI recently had my Toshiba laptop diagnosed and repaired at Affordable Computer Geeks in Winterhaven, and the experience was nothing short of excellent. From the moment I walked in, the team was attentive and eager to assist with my specific needs.
I explained that my laptopâs battery had expanded, causing issues with the keyboard, touchpad, and power supply. They understood the situation right away and were more than willing to work with my electronics insurance requirements. They provided a detailed diagnostic report for only $20, which I found very reasonable given my experience in the tech industry. The report was promptly emailed to me so I could forward it to my insurance company for repair authorization.
After receiving the report, I paid for the necessary parts upfront, and they ordered them immediately. To my surprise, they had my laptop ready the very next day! I was incredibly impressed with the fast turnaround time, especially since I wasnât expecting such quick service from any repair shop. Unfortunately, due to my own scheduling conflicts, I wasnât able to pick it up until after Labor Day. However, the laptop was ready and waiting for me as soon as I could get there.
The team not only repaired my laptop quickly but also ensured everything was functioning perfectly before returning it to me. They even took the time to condition the new battery by fully discharging and recharging it, a crucial step that many might overlook.
Affordable Computer Geeks provided both top-notch technical service and exceptional customer care. They exceeded my expectations in every way, and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of...
