Ethan Allen — Local services in Winter Park

Let me start by saying I leave very few reviews, not because they aren't merited but because they are outranked by endless other tasks in my life. But our home looks extraordinary thanks to Ethan Allen Winter Park Design Center and the design acumen of Katia Patterson, so this is something I needed to do. I'm a customer who unfortunately doesn't know what she's looking for but knows what she doesn't want. After being presented with a blank slate (blueprints and photos of our home), Katia was able to help me furnish our formal living room, formal dining room, and bedroom. She patiently listened as I fumbled through design vocabulary, lacked basic color wheel comprehension, and audibly worried about fabric choice and how it would hold up to our household of furry and non-furry children. She talked me through the nuances of 50 different shades of white and cream and how they did or did not pair with rugs, tables, and other furniture. She even gave some guidance on rooms for which the furnishings weren't coming from Ethan Allen! She brought samples to our home to match against our wall paint and was present at delivery, directing the white glove experience with the finesse of a wedding planner. My wife and I brought a new-to-us home recently. We lived in our prior home for nearly thirty years and our furniture looks it. We started updating. After visiting a number of furniture vendors, my wife said “let’s try Ethan Allen.” Sure. It sounded good to me. I knew the name but really nothing else. We found a local store and walked in. Initially, we were both somewhat surprised. It’s not a giant showroom but a small store with lots of samples. We were greeted by Katia Patterson, who explained how Ethan Allen works. We sat down with her and described what we were looking for (my wife really did most of the talking…) and Katia designed the dining room set we were looking for. She had samples of both the wood and fabrics to be used. Then, she offered to visit our home and bring samples for color coordination. This… was a whole new experience for me. At the appointed time, she arrived and walked us through everything. I had never heard the term “Design Consultant” before this. Katia is a very professional Design Consultant and was a pleasure to work with. Her eye for coordination is excellent. I’m not going to imply that it’s an inexpensive purchase. It is not. When we looked up the address and saw it was on Park Avenue and saw the size of the storefront, we were skeptical. We're used to walking into huge showrooms where we have to search for what we want. Here, there were a few samples of furniture and a wall of fabric samples. More importantly, there were staff members more than willing to help us find the furniture that would suit our needs. We worked with Katia, who was great. She listened to what we had to say, then showed us furniture that matched what we were interested in. She was extremely helpful in using the room designer software they have to help us pick the right pieces to fit into the spaces we had. The most important thing was. she listened. Rather than just try to steer us into something she wanted to sell, she listened to us and showed us the furniture that not only met our needs, but also appealed to our taste. I can't recommend Katia and the entire staff at the Winter Park Ethan Allen enough. We even wound up buying a piece of artwork that was hanging in the restroom, as the colors fit our living...
