My wife and I had some coins that we wanted to have appraised to possibly sell and we were seeking some direction as to the best approach to going about it. After doing a Google search we found Shaker Coin & Jewelry Co. and stopped at their store. When walked in we were greeted by Jim who then introduced us to his wife Hedy and were able to discuss our concerns and objectives.

Jim and Hedy took time to carefully examine our entire collection and explain details and answer questions throughout the entire process. Their level of expertise and knowledge were clearly evident but what impressed us equally was their patience, professionalism and communication throughout the entire process, thus putting us at ease from the minute we walked in.

With our own research and previous knowledge of coins we had a rough idea of what our coins were worth in weight and collectable value. Jim and Hedy took time to explain the current market prices and the values. Given our experience we felt we received a very fair and accurate offer which we agreed to. I recently inherited a sterling silver flatware set from my grandparents. All told, it was around 50oz of Sterling Silver. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a use for the pieces so began the process of seeing what the items were worth. After visiting another local business and being offered far below fair market value for the set, I called this business and made an appointment to see what they thought the set was worth. The entire process was easy and pleasant with Jim and his wife being very open and communicative during the entire experience. I have been a satisfied customer of Shaker Coin for decades. Why? Because Jim Irwin has been and continues to be totally honest and highly professional every time I have something of value to sell.

Reading a few of the other reviews here, I think that many shoppers confuse Jim’s honesty with “rudeness”. He makes a real effort to not waste your time nor his. If he says he can’t help you it’s an honest assessment of what you have to offer, nothing personal.
