Yummy!! Hidden away on Bank Street in Adelaide, this gem of a restaurant will leave you satisfied and happy if you are a fan of mandu; the dumplings that were a staple of the Korean royal court cuisine. Folding, cooking, dining and billing, all happened in one small room with barely 6 tables. There is often a small queue, and customers stand outside on the kerb to be seated. Our wait was about 10 minutes during lunch rush and we were able to place our order while standing in queue. The service was fast. The menu was straight forward; order your dumplings steamed, fried or cooked in soup. Other than mandu, there is an Udon soup and Bi-bim-bap. Dumplings are served piping hot, along with a spicy sauce and ample pickles. Most dishes include a salad, mash, or glass noodles. These are some of the best mandu I have tasted. The delicate flour skin of the mandu is second to none, the meaty filling is absolutely delicious, and the folds are expertly made by the hands of a master. The people at Mandoo are courteous and well organized. The chef and staff members made us feel special and were very obliging. The dishes are generous in size and offer great value. Each dish is portioned well per person. It will be ideal to visit Mandoo with a couple of companions and share and taste multiple dishes.

Korean Dumpling is called “Mandoo”. This little hidden family eatery runs by a couple of South Korean family is definitely opened the lids of authentic Korean cuisine to our Australian market and giving us a good indication of what genuine Korean cuisine is about. The couple can barely speak a word of English and yet providing a business in Australia, SA, Bank Street, central of Adelaide CBD lane way and where the rent is expensive, a huge credit to them both. Cold night and wanting a bowl of soup and decide to go for Korean food for dumpling. Got recommended by friends to try their Mandoo and bibimbap(Rice dish with ingredients floating on top for ready to tossed up by diner them selling it s. Tasty and freshly made in-house daily. Amazingly done and the taste is delicious. The presentation of dishes are quality. Specially the picked cucumber and onion in jar as a side, one word to describe it, “Delish!” Simple and well presented. However, one down fall, there is not much of differences in between their similar dishes. The noodle soup and the dumpling soup are using the same fish stock. At the same time, the toilet is too clustering with all kind of stuff in it. Apart from that, good food and definitely good service.

2021 Update I keep coming back to Mandoo. Although they don't serve the hotpot dishes these days, I'm so glad they survived CoVid lockdowns. I still come here for their dumplings and bibimbap. If you know it's gonna be busy and might not get a seat, you can order takeaway instead. Still freshly-made, still so good! Mandoo is an Adelaide institution. Absolutely great tasting food and incredible value for money. Three of us ordered the regular hotpot for 2-3 people. There is nothing regular about the delicious meal. The hotpot comes with complimentary side dishes that were refilled when they were all consumed. Themplings were BIG and plump, the soup broth so tasty, and no scrimping on the ingredients. As you can see from the photos in posted, it was a mountainous delight. Oh, and the special dipping sauce! I wish I could have the recipe so I can recreate it at home. We were so stuffed with good food, we didn't need to order anything else. The girl serving us was really attentive even though it was so busy in this little place. Great staff, amazing chef, fabulous food! Will definitely come back to try other things on the menu. It's so popular there is a queue at dinner time.
