Listen, I donât usually do this whole âlove letter to a barâ thing. Itâs just not my style. But Bar Peripheral, well, that place is different. Itâs like stepping into a speakeasy in a forgotten dream. You feel this⊠magic, this weird vibe like the worldâs running on a secret clock, a clock that understands that knowledge and passion are the only currencies worth a damn.
The truth is, Iâve spent more time in that dark corner of the world than Iâd care to admit. Youâre never too far away from its siren call, that little voice in the back of your head whispering, âHey, you want a good time? Go to Peripheral. You know you do.â The shelves are stacked with every damn bottle under the sun, and you get the feeling that every single one of them has a story, a reason for being there. You know, itâs like learning a language, not one youâd find in a textbook. Each drink is a conversation. Those behind the bar, theyâre getting to know you, and youâre getting to know them. Itâs this beautiful exchange, you both come away a little richer for it.
Donât get me wrong, the drinks are phenomenal. But weâve all had those âexceptional cocktailâ reviews. Iâm talking about something deeper. This place, it challenges you. It throws you a curveball, something youâd normally scoff at, and then⊠bam! It changes you. I used to be one of those âno rumâ guys. Couldnât stomach it, not even in the most dedicated rum bar. But at Bar Peripheral, I told Vini, quite simply âI donât like rum.â and that mischievous glint in his eyes, well, by the end of the night, I was eating my words.
In the food scene, we talk about âcookâs eatsâ â places where cooks can just relax and enjoy a good meal. If there where "chef's drinks" this would be it. Dark, quiet, intimate, eccentric, a bit cheeky, and definitely, definitely not for everyone. A place to remove yourself from bright lights, loud noise, and constant visual clutter. Somewhere where after a few moments, the whole world melts away and you are just there, able to sit and relax and truly just 'enjoy'. A place that leaves you with a smile on your face and treasured memories. That, my friends, is exactly why itâs so...
Read moreDuring these years in Adelaide, I have been looking for a bar, a place where I can have a few rounds of drinks with my friends and relax. Those Bars that we have been are either too noisy or the cocktails made are not to our appetite. Finally, one day last year, I discovered about this newly opened Bar, Bar Peripheral, which is a only 12-seat Bar that was forced to close due to the epidemic shortly after its opening.
"NOT FOR EVERYONE".
The location of the bar is on Pulteney Street, which I am familiar with, but the young ladies who went with me did not find it after walking pass it a few times. Knock on the door and wait to be greeted. There are 12 seats only, therefore, better reserve for your spot. No MENU but there is an elaborate cocktail introduction. After seated, you will be handed a hot towel to clean your hands and a small cup of homemade chicken soup as a welcome beverage. Then the bartender will ask your preferences and make a cocktail that only belongs to your taste according to your preferences. The overall decoration of the bar is just perfect to me, the dim lighting, the old wine cabinet, the right music... Although the bartender (the owner) has an "ice cube face", he is very enthusiastic. During the epidemic, he provided chicken soup to people in need for free when he was obviously forced to close his business. The owner has his own ideas and attitudes, and will never compromise on his dreams just like the most common sentence on his INS: "We never...
Read moreThe cocktail is absolutely delicious, with a tantalizing blend of flavors that dance on your taste buds. Its refreshing citrus notes are perfectly balanced by a subtle hint of sweetness, leaving a delightful aftertaste that lingers. Served in an elegant glass, garnished with a twist of lime and a sprig of fresh mint, it's a visual delight as well.
Moving on to the interior decoration, it exudes a welcoming warmth that embraces you the moment you step inside. The soft lighting casts a gentle glow, creating an intimate ambiance. The rich wooden furniture, adorned with plush cushions, invites you to sink in and relax. Beautifully curated artwork adorns the walls, adding a touch of sophistication to the space. The attention to detail in the choice of decor elements, from the intricate patterns on the rugs to the carefully placed accent pieces, is commendable.
In summary, this place not only serves a delicious cocktail but also creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere with its impeccable interior decoration. It's a haven where you can savor every sip while being enveloped in comfort...
