Yesterday, I encountered the barista who works at Bocelli. If his name is Frank, in his 60s and of Eastern European descent, then that's him. This was around 7:40pm.
At the local IGA and I'm waiting for the attendant to arrive and this old man pushes past me to stand directly in front of the register. We exchanged some words about his rudeness and his entitled attitude in thinking himself so important.
He aggressively waved over the attendant who was serving someone at the deli counter. Then, I suggested that he should go before me so we can get rid of his presence.
As he's purchasing the serviettes, he tells off the attendant because a homeless man who clearly stopped by to buy something had his cart in the middle of the path. Not her job to regulate a public foot path and it wasn't blocking the entrance to the store. I told him to leave the man alone! Frank obviously doesn't like being told to his face how rude and uncouth he is and we exchanged more words.
When completing his purchase, I was proud that the attendant left his change on the counter for him to pick up. A deserved mark of disrespect that he earned, which the attendant and I discussed after that disgusting man left the store.
I saw that he walked into Bocelli's as I was on my way home. Clearly, he works there, especially with just buying serviettes and finding his photo on Bocelli's Instagram.
I've lived in the East End for 4 years and never went to Bocelli's but have tried every cafe on Hutt Street. Now, I can see why I avoided that place.

Β Β Β Read moreI won't go back here again! Last night was my first time here and I arrived with my friend around 8.45pm and while the staff were happy to take our order for some food and a glass of wine each by 9.15pm the waitress came over and asked whether the half eaten plate of food that we were sharing was finished. It wasn't as we were still eating. Then 5 minutes later she was back asking whether we had finished with our wine glasses which we clearly hadn't because there was still wine in the glasses. 5 more minutes passed and a waiter came over and told us they were closing so we had to leave. This week is Fringe and SuperCars and I would have expected the staff to have told us when we ordered that they were about to close. Anyway, we headed over to House of Chow and they were more than happy for us to sit at their bar and have a drink until our ride...
Β Β Β Read moreThe food and the service were excellent. Cheerful, helpful staff accommodated all the requested changes to the set menu items with ease. The service was so prompt it took us a bit by surprise. The menu has enough choice. The quality of the food was difficult to fault; the meals tasted fresh and full of flavour. I came away with a feeling of satisfaction that the tasty food combined with very good service was value for money. My only reason for 4 stars (4.5 really)and not 5 is that, while the surroundings are good (really, nothing to complain about) a more authentic Italian feel would tip over into...
