This restaurant serves Chinese-style food with a Western twist, so it’s not your typical take on traditional Chinese cuisine. If you’re craving Chinese food, Hong Kong is the place to be. This restaurant is nowhere near it. We were astonished by the mantis shrimp. Chinese cuisine doesn’t usually deep-fry them and cut them in half like a lobster. The lamb tasted like regular beef. I didn’t even realize it was a lamb dish until my friend pointed it out. They used the same sauce to fry the lamb and duck dishes, and they tasted exactly the same. A bit of a letdown, to be honest. The duck dish is acceptable, except for the fact that they used the sauce to fry it. The only complaint I have is that the duck is too lean and tough. The duck was clearly imported from Africa. The oysters were not up to par. The waiter service was satisfactory, although the use of a stainless steel ice bucket to store the rice and a porcelain spoon for serving rice resulted in rice sticking to the spoon and preventing it from falling into the customer’s bowl. This way of serving rice in Chinese cuisine is totally “unique"! After all, it is still a 'good' experience.

Every time I eat here, I leave so very satisfied. The meals are amazing, the atmosphere is lovely and the service is always outstanding. We usually order a few dishes and share them banquet style...it’s always nice to taste a wider variety of flavors. Favorites include: Salt & pepper squid, Mongolian beef, Lemongrass chicken...anything from the BBQ meat section and of course the seafood is absolutely outstanding. You cannot possibly go wrong with any of their amazing prawn dishes. House Of Chow is definitely a favorite any time I am in Adelaide and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Order up and enjoy it 👍🏽 You’re welcome 😉

We have been eating food from here for years, dine in and take away.Unfortunately won’t be back again. We got a takeaway order Sunday night. It was awful. I actually cried over how bad my meal was. I have spent years telling everyone how amazing the salt and pepper tofu was. This meal was anything but. The tofu had no taste, the coating was lumpy and like glue. No salt and pepper, just an oily sticky taste. I couldn’t even finish eating. Even the fried rice was greasy and tasteless. So so sad!! 😩😩 See pic- top two from Sunday’s meal, bottom two from past amazing experiences. They don’t even look like the same dish.

I have been a long time customer at house of chow. First discovered it in 2019 with my boyfriend and fell inlove however in the last 6-7 months I have been there twice and both times been severely disappointing.

The first of the two times the waiters didn’t understand personal space & the food was dull and undercooked. I put it on a them having a bad day and moved on.

I then decided to book for last night and I unfortunately was late by 20 minutes due to late transport. Once I walked through the door I was greeted with an ugly/unwelcoming stare from the lady at the counter who I was told was named “Elena” when I called back later. I told Elena I was so sorry I was late and is the booking still okay to go ahead as it was nearly 6 but they had told us over the phone we just had to be out by 7. Elena didn’t say a word she just looked me up and down, dragged the booking sheet closer to her looked me up and down again and rolled her eyes before rudely saying “Next time can you tell me you’re going to be late because we could give your table away to someone else. You also need to be out by 7.” There was no ”Hello how are you, let me have a look or let me see what I can do l.” She could have even said ”I’m so sorry because you’re so late it’s cutting it close can I fit u in for later this evening or im so sorry unfortunately we can’t seat you anymore” and I would have totally understood despite there being an hour and ten before we had to leave the table but her tone and her attitude was nothing short of rude. She then asked one of the waiters to seat me however I called my friend in the process and asked if we could meet somewhere else and decided to walk across the road to Bocellis where we were welcomed from the moment we walked in and fed a quality meal without rude and overbearing staff.

I want to be clear that I totally get it’s not great I was late for my booking but the way you communicate matters.I’m not sure if the owners have changed but if so it is really showing. This woman has no idea about quality customer service. Get a new job babe miserable doesn’t look...

Unfortunately I was not happy with my experience, especially for the price. I do understand that this was an extremely busy night for the restaurant and it is entirely possible that the kitchen was short staffed. Having said that, the prices were still full price and I expected full service.

Pros: Abalone and chicken soup, wasabi prawns, prawn toast were excellent, delicious and well cooked.

Cons: First and foremost the steamed rice was hands down the worst I have ever had. Rice at a place like House Of Chow should be outstanding. It tasted like it was re-heated from last night. I am not sure what went wrong there but I actually complained about this.

1 hour wait for Appetisers. More than 1 hour wait for mains. Food came out in dribs and drabs with 10 min gaps between my wife's soup and mine. Plates and cutlery were "plonked" on the table. Initial drinks order was mixed up.

House XO sauce was ordinary and the scallops were just so-so. Shanghi Fried Duck was pretty tasteless and the mushroom sauce tasted like gravox with some white button mushrooms (raw) just plopped in.

Food presentation was lousy. Food thrown on the plate, spilled from primary plates onto secondary. Very little care given to the plating of the majority of plates.

Glasses and plates were chipped and old.

Lights were turned off on us in our corner for another tables b'day. I would not have minded if given a little warning, but we thought there was a black-out.

Just not acceptable for the price. We will be going to T-Chow...

I Went here for my 50th Birthday dinner with my family.

It's a Great location, with Plenty of Parking right out the front...Perfect!

Upon entering the Restaurant, you 1st notice the Pleasantly slightly dimmed Lighting & the fish aquarium...as well as some Amazing Food Smells!

We were seated & given menus & Refreshments quite quickly! The waiting staff Giving us Ample, but not Too Much, time...to view the menu & decide on our dishes!

Once Ordered...the meals were in our table Very Quickly! Which...let's be honest...does Not happen Very often...Anymore!

Especially in a Busy & Popular restaurant such as House Of Chow!?!

Please...don't Ever Change...I Love the Place just as it Is ☺

The quality of the food here at House of Chow is Great, the food & beverages at House of Chow are Very Reasonable Prices, Good Sized servings of ALL the dishes We'd Ordered, and the place is Tastefully decorated!

I would Definitely recommend this place for a Nice Relaxing Family Evening Meal, or maybe a meal after the movies....Even just as a night off cooking, to spoil yourself!!

Thankyou...for an Awesome 50th Birthday Dinner 😀

House of Chow....gets a Great Big Thumbs...
