Loaded Corner Cafe — Restaurant in Adelaide

I highly recommend Loaded Corner Cafe, especially for the incredible customer service from Joseph and their Matcha Flight (that I heard from an Instagram reel a friend sent me) 😁🍵

I walked in without a booking. The cafe was crowded and seating was scarce, with ~1 free table. It had a funky vibe; you can play board games or read books with both available on the cafe's shelf. The 3:00pm closing time is a rough guide and cleaning takes place after that time 🕒

I ordered the regular sized Matcha Flight, which includes 4 x flavoured matcha drinks of your choice = $24.00 + Dubai Chocolate Flavour ($2.00) 🇦🇪🍫 + Almond Milk ($1.00) 🌰🥛. (Total Paid: $27.00.) The other 3 flavours ordered was Banana Cream, Blueberry and Lavender 🍌🫐🌿

Wait time for the matcha flight was 35 minutes, given there were only 2 staff working 🕒

The photo of the matcha flight was when it was served 📸 Part of the katafi had already fallen because the Dubai Chocolate Matcha was accidentally overfilled, as explained by Joseph (the barista).

Dubai Chocolate 🇦🇪🍫 - Delicious, sweet and tasted predominantly like chocolate, not matcha.

Blueberry 🫐 - Blueberries tasted fresh and sweet, overall nice taste.

Banana Cream 🍌 - Nice, but a bit bitter. The banana cream was sweet and could be tasted when mixed with the matcha drink.

Lavender 🌿 - Tasted too strongly of matcha and could barely taste the lavender.

The 4 drinks were definitely too much for one person, so I requested takeaway. Joseph gave me separate takeaway cups and a cardboard cup holder tray to take away the drinks.

Joseph asked for my feedback on all the matcha drinks, which he took on humbly and he did not get defensive nor angry. He was currently experimenting with the matcha flight drinks and explained why the lavender matcha was so bitter, but I cannot recall why. He offered to add more lavender (free of cost) to my lavender matcha, which I accepted. The additional lavender resulted in being able to taste the lavender in the matcha drink, which was nice 🌿

I really appreciated Joseph's friendly personality, great customer service and immense accommodation, which enhanced my experience at Loaded Corner Cafe. I wanted to return to try a breakfast menu item, but I was exploring Adelaide 🥲

I don’t often leave a review but our visit today was disappointing. My friend and I came because we had seen review on TikTok about the Matcha Flight. We ordered, the girl who served us was new but friendly. The person shadowing her spoke over her and he seemed more confused than she did. We asked if we could choose our 4 Matchas out of the 5 choices for our question to be unanswered by the man. When they came we got a flavour we didn’t like and the flavour we wanted wasn’t there (which was shown on the TikTok review). We were charged 10% surcharge, fair enough but the service did not reflect the extra money paid. One man was extremely confused and flustered, it was slightly busy but not by any means full. There was an awful amount of smoke in the venue with no proper ventilation. The people next to us moved outside due to this issue. Our eyes were burning and it was totally uncomfortable. After 30 minutes the server came up to us to tell us there was no chicken left for the burger we ordered. As they served (what I assume was the last piece) to another costumer. At this point there were too many red flags from bad service, a smoky cafe and total confusion with orders all round, we asked for a refund since no food had even been started to be prepared. Our matchas arrived and tasted awful, they were bitter, we didn’t even finish them, another waste of money. When we asked for the refund they agreed and the apology was ‘sorry we’re just really busy today’. It just felt like a poor excuse. So now we had to go somewhere else to find food after our wasted money on matchas (I might add we are still waiting for our refund to process so more money spend) I am pregnant so not only was I feeling unwell that after 45 minutes there was no food and I felt suffocated with smoke. I read the reviews so decided to come down to try the food and coffee.

Upon walking in, it was difficult to understand whether there was a line at the register or not. I went around people standing displaced near the entrance and waited behind a group, after a few minutes I realised they were waiting for food and had been standing directly in the doorway.

So I relined up and waited to order a coffee, I couldn’t see any free tables at the time I arrived and wasn’t interested in waiting for food.

Coffee order in at 11:37am…. I wait at the opposite entrance near the coffee machine, I see one lady serving all the inside and outside tables, I see her stopped 3-4 times by tables asking for them to be cleared, I see a barista making coffees until there’s a 10+ minute gap where no one touches the coffee machine because they’re making matcha and milk shakes…. It’s now 12:07pm and I leave, without my coffee.

I’d like to say it’s just that they’re busy and they can’t do better, but that’s just not the case. Lack of staff on the floor is the first issue, second issue is someone needs to man the coffee machine non stop all day if you’re that busy, get someone else to make the milkshakes and matcha.

Who knows how long I would have waited if I stayed, it’s 12:14am now and I’m at a cafe around the corner sipping a delicious coffee, my tables been set, I’ve ordered food and have water.

I’ll personally never give loaded corner cafe another chance, but I hope if their food is as good as people say that they fix their...
