Food was average and the only reason I went there was because there was a $6 special going on, I would absolutely not pay the full price for it. Got the chicken weezy, popcorn chicken, fries and had some of my friends milkshake. Burger was ok, a bit generic but I still enjoyed it and ate all of it. The fries were the best thing we had but honestly even $6 is pushing it in price for what you get, and that was on sale. The popcorn chicken was dry and the gravy-cheese sauce didn't really taste like anything at all, the milkshake was bog standard so I'm not fussed on it. One server was incredible, gave use colouring pages and paper-crowns and held friendly conversation and was attentive. A different server was incredibly rude and condescending. First, gave us the wrong receipt (while we were not even halfway through our meal) even though all of us already paid through the QR code, and while we were reading the recipt to check if it was ours she kept talking to us like we were toddlers in a condescending and impatient tone. She then told us that we had to figure out how to split it and left without saying anything else, and one of us had to go up specifically to the front and tell them they gave us someone else's receipt. She then took that receipt to the correct table, slammed it down and said "that's yours" and walked off again. Maybe 10-15 minutes later she came back and told us we had to wrap up and start moving on and hurrying up even though we were clearly still eating, and complained loudly that the kitchen is closed but they're still making burgers (what do you expect when you've got a sale going...) and saying how "we're going to be here forever". She tried to take my friends burger out of her hands and when told that she was still eating, said "well you literally put the napkin in the tray" (food is served in plastic baskets instead of real plates) and got huffy. Also started taking away my cup of water claiming "if you worked in hospitality you would know" ... I just finished at 10 hour open-close shift,, and I'm being made to seem like a jobless idiot for wanting to finish the food that I payed for at the table that I reserved? I had mistakenly placed an order for a dessert at 8:37pm and was told very rudely "no we can't make that the kitchen is closed" ok, I understand the kitchen is closed, my bad for placing the order late. But don't act like I'm trying to intentionally ruin your schedule, and explain it properly and kindly. We were all stood after being essentially shoo-ed out of our seats (half of which were stools instead of real chairs. No one likes stools.) And I said "oh sorry can I get a refund on that then?" And gestured to my phone, since I had placed the order on my phone originally. She said "I literally just told you that the kitchen closes at 8:30" (she had told 2 out of the 7 of us) and started walking away. I didn't really know what to do and was trying to figure out how to request a refund on the online menu, when I was called out to by her from across the restaurant "did you want the refund or not" even though she never explained that I had to go to the front with her for it. She gave me cash for it even though I wanted it back on my card, and when I went to go outside to join my friends she called out again "did you want to pay for your meal?" In a very accusatory tone, as if we were trying to dine and dash even though we had already explained thoroughly probably 20 minutes prior that we had already paid. I said back "we paid online.." she responded "oh ok" and we just walked away. She was immature and had some sort of chip on her shoulder and was trying to take it out on us, shoo-ing us out while other customers were still taking their time eating without being made to seem like villains. Sorry for placing the order for dessert order late, but YOUR system shouldn't allow me to place an order past the kitchens closing time, and tables with reservations at 8pm should be told as they're sat that last orders are at 8:30, not AT 8:30 they they can't order dessert or drinks. Plus...
Read moreI've really wanted to like Milky Lane from the moment that it's opened on Rundle Street but so far it's been disappointing each time, for various reasons. Tonight (Tuesday 13th of August) being the straw that broke the camel's back. The first few times I went to Milky Lane the biggest disappointment were the burgers. The lil weezy and chicken weezy not very flavorful especially compared to other burger places. The desserts and milkshakes are nice but on one of my trips I had to wait 30 minutes for the biscoff skillet which never came out. My third time I went when they had a promotion for 10 dollar burgers. I went in with a group of 10 people, eager to make use of the offer. It took 30 mins to be seated at our booked table but once we were we all ordered different burgers, myself ordering the big poppa. After an HOUR of waiting for the food My burger, the biggest one, was somehow the first to come out, with my friends burgers coming slowly afterwards. No one at the table was happy, and any plans we might have had afterwards had to be cancelled. The best thing I could say about that night was that the burger I bought was the best one I've had there. Just full of meats and bacon and sauces, the best representation of their overloaded burgers with the best flavour because of it. But no burger could save the wait time, and it ruined my friends burgers completely. Now to tonight. Another deal, 6 dollars for a variety of items. We booked a table for 7 people at 8 o'clock. We arrived, sat down and ordered immediately. I ordered the chicken Weezy, popcorn chicken, chips, and a milkshake. This time around, our food came out a lot quicker, and I will say I enjoyed my meal. The shake was nice, the burger satisfying, the chicken a little dry and the chips nice. Though now the problem was with the service. One waiter was quite nice to us, complimenting our accessories, providing us with drawing paper just being very friendly. Though there was another waiter wearing a bandanna was just plain rude. As the night went on she acted as if it was our fault that they were still making burgers past their kitchens closing time. Supposedly they closed the kitchen at 8:30, but we were allowed to book at 8:00. None of the burgers in the kitchen would've been ours at that point. She came over with a receipt asking us to work out who was paying for what, even though we all payed online. As we were trying to work out why we got this receipt, she was talking to us like children repeating herself for an answer. Once we explained it wasn't ours she stormed over to another table, slammed it down and said "this is yours!" By far the worst thing she said as she was cleaning up our table and trying to shoo us away was "you would understand if you worked in hospitality". I did not work 5 years in a restaurant to be told what I haven't done. And I don't think my friends who are CURRENTLY WORKING IN hospitality appreciated the comment either. Not only that but we seemed to be the only ones getting kicked out. One of my friends made the mistake of ordering after the kitchens closing (if app ordering was turned off it wouldn't have been a problem) and she treats my friend like an idiot. Even when my friend was asking for a refund, she started walking away leaving us confused until she turned back and went 'do you want your refund or not?' and the last thing she says as we leave is 'are you guys going to pay?' as if we didn't already. I'm sorry but no matter what kind of day your having, or how soon you want to go home, it should not be THE CUSTOMERS FAULT you couldn't manage it. We had not done anything to receive this treatment. On a day where you had a 6 dollar special of course you were going to get a lot of orders. Despite an experience I want to be a good one, Milky lanes food is subpar, service can be very poor and the wait times terrible even on quieter days. There are plenty of other burger places around Adelaide, so I'd recommend one that chooses a menu of good food over a menu of grossly overloaded...
Read moreAbsolutely awesome experience here with my buddy.
I had been to the Milky Lane in Surfers Paradise ~4 years ago. Didn't have a great experience there but was very excited to give it another go when I found out they were opening in my hometown!
Very laid back vibe with Hip-Hop/RnB music playing in the background, not too loud that it's hard to hear people talk but loud enough that you can sing along/dance if you so desire. Was told that there is an in-house DJ spinning tracks on Friday and Saturday nights, so would expect more of a nightclub atmosphere on those nights (which in my opinion is not a bad thing)
The wall decals and lighting are part of the awesome aesthetic that makes this place really appealing to a young adult demographic such as myself. The menus are also really colourful & vibrant, while also being easy to read. The way I describe it to my friends who are into streetwear/sneakers is "if Culture Kings were in restaurant form"
The food and beverages we had were absolutely sublime, presentation of everything was A+ and the taste was not far behind. Also the food came out very swiftly after we'd ordered, which is always a plus, and was still very warm. This is not a place where you just come to eat and then leave. Coming to Milky Lane is an entire experience and I love it for that.
The service was fantastic 90% of the time. We're mainly served by a lovely lady called Kira, who was very bubbly and had a chat with me about the restaurant and the vibe that it creates for the customer and staff. Very friendly and informative.
The one, very small issue I had was multiple wait staff coming up and asking the same questions about how our food was/Wether we wanted to grab anymore drinks/food after we'd finish. My suggestion would be to try and limit a table to 1 server, as this would make the experience slightly more streamlined & personable, while avoiding questions being asked multiple times to a table.
However will definitely be coming back and recommending to my friends. Keep up the good work...
