Nola is a great place to hang for a while and enjoy both food and atmosphere. It also has a very large number of whiskeys , and a few signature cocktails which are quite inventive and delicious. My friend and I went on a Friday evening, which was busy and the downstairs area was full , but there was seating on the second floor so we took the stairs . It’s amazing how many people you can sit in a small place - but it adds to the atmosphere. There is both a bar upstairs and downstairs- form what I could see the beers were more downstairs, but the cocktail bar was situated on the second floor .There was also live music while we were eating , so that definitely was an added bonus . The staff are all friendly and welcoming and quite happy to explain anything to you if asked . I also enjoyed watching the bar staff make a few cocktails , it was it’s own form of entertainment. If we’re talking food , think Creole , Southern US , Louisiana type fare backed up by an amazing variety of whiskeys from around the world . My whiskey sour was made with Buffalo Trace , which is a smoked bourbon whiskey that I love. The food was good - standouts were the burnt pork bites and the amazing jalapeño cornbread- they should sell that to takeaway because it was amazing and so full of flavour . The only downside was that I couldn’t hear the musician better because most people were talking , but it was a Friday evening so I suppose that’s par for the course . Definitely worth a few more visits , and would be great midweek late to just sit at the bar and enjoy the whiskey .

We have a new go-to in Adelaide! Recently we took a short trip to Adelaide so making the right choice for lunch was very important. Thankfully we had heard great things about NOLA so we decided to head there. We advised the staff that we didn’t have a booking and were pleasantly surprised to hear they don’t take them so this got our dining experience off to a great start. We grabbed a table upstairs and ordered via the QR code making everyone’s lives easier. On order was Cornbread, BBQ Pork Belly Burnt Ends, Smoked Bacon Mac and Cheese, Spicy Corn Ribs, Cajun Roasted Cauliflower with Almonds and Blue Cheese and lastly, Frickles which were Lightly battered dill pickles with fermented jalapeno aioli. To be fair we ordered A LOT because we basically could not rule any of the above dishes out. The food was outstanding to say the very least. It was really hard to choose a favourite here so we rounded it down to 3. The Spicy Corn Ribs, BBQ Pork Belly and the Cauliflower were the most balanced and delicious of all. That’s not to take away from the others, it’s just that those made us go wow! The atmosphere at this restaurant was also great. The music was not too loud but contained a seriously good playlist. Additionally, the staff were friendly but gave us just the right amount of space to take our time with our meals and leave us to it. We are not afraid to say that we asked for take away containers for the leftovers here - and yes, it was that good! All up, we can easily say we know where we’ll be eating next time we visit Adelaide!!

At least they apologised THEY DID APOLOGISE so partial credit…….. I know management will know the incidents I am referring to Saturday 19 June 2021… HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.. I wanted something a bit up market with a relaxed vibe and staff treated me like it was a cheep nightclub. GO ELSEWHERE FOR UPSCALE EXPERIENCE. I know it was a Saturday but the foul language buy the floor manager was disgusting. The overall manager did make him apologise and promise he would not say such disgusting things in the future so THANK YOU. But I wanted to go there because I thought it had some class BUT such language was shocking. DISCLAIMER To be fair I want to state that the security guard out the font AND the manager did offer an apology for this event. IN PARTICULAR apologising for the derogatory language and swears directed at young girls. THEY SAID it was just a bad day. As a Psychology Honours student familiar with advance statistics I was believing the “bad day” excuse for the security guard out the front. I do believe he was genuinely sorry when he said “I was a Pr**k” and I’m not usually like that. HOWEVER when the floor manager came out to see what was going on…. The language used would suggest the security guards initial language was not a statistical outlier due to a bad day but just the culture of the venue. I won’t repeat the words because quite frankly they are to disgusting to repeat. This review is not for the local who might be so unfortunate to pop past but for you travellers. I do encourage management to reach out to me however it is unlikely there’s anything they can offer to remedy what happened as unfortunately I will never feel comfortable attending this establishment. THE LANGUAGE & ATTITUDES OF THIS VENU DON’T REPRESENT ADELAIDE. THIS IS NOT ADELAIDES BEST.

Yaaaaaall. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in Australia. Not to mention the space was perfect (comfortable, unpretentious, the music wasn’t annoyingly loud, the staff was friendly and attentive). I’m only visiting Adelaide for a few days and I’m so sad I can’t eat here whenever I want. My table ordered the Big Easy and Every. Single. Dish. nailed it. I took one bite of that hot shrimp dip and I think I saw god. And the tater tots??? Are you kidding me???? I did not know potatoes could be improved until I ate these. Every dish was paced out well, you didn’t have to wait too long in between courses but you also weren’t being shoved out the door with dishes arriving too soon. You get seven courses altogether for $45, like what more can I say? An absolutely incredible value for money and the food was insane. Here’s hoping this is a spot that one day lands a Michelin star and I get to say, “I went there before it had the hype!” In conclusion since I can’t wax poetic forever even though I want to: come hungry, get the Big Easy, and prepare yourself for a religious experience.

I don’t know where to start with this little slice of heaven. Most people would start with the chicken but that’s incredibly 1 dimensional and Nola is anything but that. I came to Adelaide nearly 1 year ago with an empty stomach and a dream, and Nola welcomed me with open arms. I’m still working on the dream, but Nola has filled my stomach on multiple occasions. Every time I walk in I’m greeted by the friendly staff, excellent service, and sensational food and drinks. In a city with great restaurants Nola continues to stand head and shoulders above its competition. The vibe is immaculate, the drink selection is superb, and the chicken is crispy. There’s not much more someone can ask for in my opinion.

Unfortunately this just isn't the place for me. We ordered the hot cheesy shrimp dip, the pulled pork po boy, beef brisket po boy and chicken. The food was fairly standard. We assumed the shrimp dip would be spicy, but it's not. It was also just not my thing, although my partner liked it. The po boys were alright as well, nothing that blows your mind. The meat was cooked well which was great. The fried chicken was extremely heavy. Great when you take your first and second bite, but hard to keep on eating without feeling a bit sick. Place is really cute and has a great atmosphere, the food just wasn't my thing unfortunately.
