Nola: An Unforgettable Experience for Whiskey Lovers and Food Enthusiasts Alike Nola in Adelaide truly stands out as a gem, offering an experience that goes far beyond your typical bar or restaurant. From the moment you step in, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that speaks of passion, expertise, and genuine hospitality. What truly elevates Nola to another level is their staff. At least they apologised

THEY DID APOLOGISE so partial credit……..

I know management will know the incidents I am referring to Saturday 19 June 2021…

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.. I wanted something a bit up market with a relaxed vibe and staff treated me like it was a cheep nightclub.

GO ELSEWHERE FOR UPSCALE EXPERIENCE.

I know it was a Saturday but the foul language buy the floor manager was disgusting. The overall manager did make him apologise and promise he would not say such disgusting things in the future so THANK YOU. But I wanted to go there because I thought it had some class BUT such language was shocking.

DISCLAIMER To be fair I want to state that the security guard out the font AND the manager did offer an apology for this event. IN PARTICULAR apologising for the derogatory language and swears directed at young girls. THEY SAID it was just a bad day.

As a Psychology Honours student familiar with advance statistics I was believing the “bad day” excuse for the security guard out the front. I do believe he was genuinely sorry when he said “I was a Pr**k” and I’m not usually like that.

HOWEVER when the floor manager came out to see what was going on…. The language used would suggest the security guards initial language was not a statistical outlier due to a bad day but just the culture of the venue.

I won’t repeat the words because quite frankly they are to disgusting to repeat.

This review is not for the local who might be so unfortunate to pop past but for you travellers.

I do encourage management to reach out to me however it is unlikely there’s anything they can offer to remedy what happened as unfortunately I will never feel comfortable attending this establishment.

THE LANGUAGE & ATTITUDES OF THIS VENU DON’T REPRESENT ADELAIDE.

Undoubtedly the best place* we ate at in Adelaide, a vibrant sun filled spot with booths, a gallery wall with tributes to Jazz. . 🍞 Cornbread w smoked cheddar, jalapeno, salted butter + parmesan 🌽 Spicy corn ribs 🍗 Fried chicken - chilli, cheese + garlic, tossed in spicy garlic butter, covered in fluffy parmesan 🍩 Beignets - Traditional New Orleans style doughnuts, covered in powdered sugar w bourbon butterscotch sauce . What to order? One of everything! We're here for the buttermilk brined fried chicken, adding this to my top 4 spots for chicken (QT Kitchen, Okra, Tian 38 are our other favourites), so juicy. There's three flavours to choose from, the chilli, cheese + garlic was perfect for that kick, not spicy said my brain, alas the nose disagrees. Crispy edged hot cornbread, it was beautiful. Much like the beignet, considered not that impressive in this century compared to all the other deep fried and delicious things, NOLA serves it up with a delightful bourbon butterscotch sauce that makes it an essential order. . Staff were lovely, we were the first people in for lunch service. They have free filtered water! (Normally we have to pay for still bottled water, tap is gross) . 💵 $50 . Update - Oct 2024 return. Not sure if we made bad choices but it wasn't as amazing as last time. Original fried chicken was fried in old oil, can you really go back after pickled radish served w korean fried chicken, and light Japanese fried chicken? Shrimp dip served hot was good. Cornbread was cold on the inside, fridge cold. Atmospheric warm lamps, and live music was nice. A blues rendition of amazing grace. . Last time: first one in for lunch This time: Friday night, full house . 3/5 Hit & miss...

Nola is a great place to hang for a while and enjoy both food and atmosphere. It also has a very large number of whiskeys , and a few signature cocktails which are quite inventive and delicious. My friend and I went on a Friday evening, which was busy and the downstairs area was full , but there was seating on the second floor so we took the stairs . It’s amazing how many people you can sit in a small place - but it adds to the atmosphere. There is both a bar upstairs and downstairs- form what I could see the beers were more downstairs, but the cocktail bar was situated on the second floor .There was also live music while we were eating , so that definitely was an added bonus . The staff are all friendly and welcoming and quite happy to explain anything to you if asked . I also enjoyed watching the bar staff make a few cocktails , it was it’s own form of entertainment. If we’re talking food , think Creole , Southern US , Louisiana type fare backed up by an amazing variety of whiskeys from around the world . My whiskey sour was made with Buffalo Trace , which is a smoked bourbon whiskey that I love. The food was good - standouts were the burnt pork bites and the amazing jalapeño cornbread- they should sell that to takeaway because it was amazing and so full of flavour . The only downside was that I couldn’t hear the musician better because most people were talking , but it was a Friday evening so I suppose that’s par for the course . Definitely worth a few more visits , and would be great midweek late to just sit at the bar and enjoy the whiskey .
