An Anniversary, we went to Sovereign Hill from Melbourne for the day and down to Geelong for their popular seafood dinners. The standard of food and service were not worth this price.
We were greeted by a nice Western man possibly from somewhere in Europe in his 40-50s, after being seated, we found a very dark sauce mark hidden under the glass, next staff available was an Asian girl probably in her 20s or 30s.
When we asked for the cloth to be changed, she hesitated for a good 10-15 seconds before offering us to move tables, which was ok. . . but only to find later that the next customer sitting on the table still had that dark mark on the cloth, clearly she is not willing to change it, such a high class restaurant can accept this kind of cleanliness?
If that was it, I would not leave a negative review, next issue is when we ordered the steak from the Asian girl, we read "Tasmanian" and "steak" and assumed it was a fish steak, ended up a beef steak came. That was our fault, but did she ask how we would like the steak cooked? (note one previous comment asked for medium rare, but got well done?). My partner likes to eat it rare.
Still tasted pretty nice so again we weren't going to leave a negative, but at the end, I went to pay the bill, the nice Western man did it, so i asked him to add two natural oysters as a surprise for my partner who was at the table, so he did and asked the Asian girl to have it prepared while he does the payment with me.
What did the Asian girl do? She went to the table while I was doing the payment, and asked my partner, did you order two more oysters?? Then afterwards went to the Western man again to ask, and he had to explain from step 1 to step 1.2 to step 1.8 to step 2.1, "Yes he added the two oysters on the order with me just then, he has just paid for his order, the two extra oysters are on it as well."
She completely ruined the surprise The man said we ordered two more oysters, why in the world would she ask us before asking the man when we ordered it? It means she has trust issues with her co workers (or just that Western man who is clearly doing a much better job than her)
Very unprofessional service from this Asian girl after a long day, long drives and just wanting to...
Read moreHaving guests from Hong Kong, a group of 6, an extensive order was placed. The sour dough bread offered was very hard & dry, accompanied by oil, however we had to ask for butter that was evidently straight from the fridge - un spreadable for a good 5 minutes - the main order included a Fisherman's Pier Catch - we specifically asked if lobster/crayfish was included in the selection as we were looking at adding another dish if it was not, we were assured it was - as we came to the end of our meal we had not been able to find same so made enquiries of the waitress - she came back full of apologies that the menu had been changed, a fact of which she was not aware, & to have cray/lobster included we would need to pay extra - this option was not advised when we ordered - she offered us one @ $260 or half @ $140 which we declined but then she did offer 1 drink, (there were 6 of us),"on the house" for our inconvenience - the meat of the crab which was included was definitely frozen & thawed- not fresh - totally tasteless and an awful flourery consistency - on the positive side - the other selection in the Catch were superb, as were the pre- dinner oysters, scallops, & prawns, the sirloin steak was amazing in taste & texture, the risotto & the beer batter chips, great - creme brulee & fruit platter could not be faulted - however for a supposed 5 star restaurant it fell far below par on an average - they do not offer free WiFi - a definite inconvenience for businessmen from Hong Kong who needed constant contact - a 3 hour time difference - every time these businessmen visit Melbourne they insist on this restaurant even though they are staying at Crown they travel to Geelong for dinner - this time a great disappointment & nowhere near the quality of past...
Read moreAs always the food was excellent but that is where our dining experience ended. We took friends who had never been to Geelong before to Fishermans Pier last night. Our booking was for 7.30pm, by the time we had ordered our food and drinks it was probably 7.50. Our Entrees arrived at about 8pm and before we had all finished eating them the waitress came and asked could they prepare our main meals as the kitchen was closing soon, this was at 8.10. We were a bit amazed but had to agree. We queried the waitress and she said the kitchen usually closed at 8. Why take bookings at 7.30 if people are being rushed with their food. What has happened to the Australian dining experience. Our main meals arrived within the next few minutes even though one of us hadn't finished their entree and all the dishes were still yet to be cleared from the table. We felt that we were being so rushed !! We all found it very hard to eat our main course as it came so close to our entree and in the end we asked for 2 containers to put the food in. The other problem was that the waiter came to clear the table trying to take one of the plates that our friend who was just taking a breath and we suggested to the waiter that really the plates should not be removed until everyone at the table had finished to which he gave a smart mouth reply. All they wanted to do was push us out the door . We usually go there once a week but won't be back. Very insulting, embarrassing and disappointing!!!! Totally...
