This waterfront cafe located in the heart of Geelong features Japanese flavours and Izakaya style. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a nicely decorated wall featuring Japanese sake & a wide variety of alcohol. The menu was clear and easy to navigate with plenty of options for varying price ranges!!

Sadly, this is about where the postives end. The service was poor and unprofessional. They fairly told us we needed to order at the counter when we sat down, which we did. My partner had to repeat our orders multiple times as the server was distant & distracted. He also had questions regarding the food due to allergy concerns. The answers provided did not align with what was served, showing no regard for his allergies.

Despite having only three tables dining in, they were still sloppy and disorderly when bringing the food out. As the waitress reached over the table to put my partners plate down, she mistakenly nearly hit me in the forehead with my dish & didn't even notice. Some of the cutlery provided was also not sufficiently cleaned and had dried food stuck to them :(

I ordered the pulled pork toastie and sadly was violently throwing up afterwards because of how oily the meat was (the oil was dripping all over my plate, and I tried soaking up most of it with tissue). It was so unfortunate as the flavours were nice.

My partners "make your own breakfast" hasbrowns, bacon, and even bread, were also extremely greasy to the point where they didn't finish eating.

I hope this feedback can be taken into consideration as this prime location and lovely atmosphere has so much potential.

UPDATE: Thank you for your prompt response. Good to hear since I've read similar complaints regarding limited servers & excessive oil in foods. Just some things to...

edit: have been back since and the ramen is back to somewhat its original standards; still prefer the 1.0 store though

Hopefully just a bad day, but this was not a great Easter Friday dinner.

The service was sluggish and two servers stood at the front with their back faced to the door and not acknowledging customers. No water or telling us to order at the counter, just left us with a few menus on the table.

The starters were great, tataki, miso eggplant, karaage and cheese calamari balls were all delicious. Then the ramen came…

I have had tomadachi no less than 10 times in the past year and NEVER have the yuzu ramen tasted this foul. It was oily like someone put a spoon of day old oil in my noodle and missed all the usual citrusy spicy clear broth. There were clumps of sauce at the bottom of my bowl that were never gonna dissolve, and the noodles were overly soft than usual.

Genuinely a shame as the old store’s quality is spectacular and have never let us down before; to have a meal like this when we take friends and family down was a real buzz killer.

Hopefully the next time we come the ramen return to the...

I was in the mood for Japanese cuisine and wanted something quick, healthy, and delicious. So, I decided to try their teriyaki chicken bento box.

Ordering was a breeze, and to my surprise, my order was ready in less than 10 minutes. The chicken was freshly cooked and had a generous amount of flavorful teriyaki sauce that was simply mouthwatering. The rice was cooked to perfection. Alongside the main dish, the bento box also included sides such as edamame, which added a nice touch of freshness to the meal.

The cabbage salad with sesame dressing, provided a crisp and tangy contrast to the savory flavors. The spring rolls were crunchy and had a delicious vegetarian filling. To add a final touch, the inclusion of a wedge of orange to enjoy at the end of the meal was a thoughtful and refreshing choice.

The efficient service, fantastic food, and attention to detail have won me over. If you're in the mood for a quick, healthy Japanese meal, Tomodachi 2.0 is a...

At first, I didn’t expect anything from this restaurant as it settled nearby the waterfront (like dude Japanese restaurant on the beach). I just came here for seasonal beer tap. However, I did order Tonkotsu ramen and quite delighted as the flavor of this ramen was so legit. Honestly, it was the best ramen I ever had in Australia. The chachu itself not tender on the day I eaten besides that everything was flavorful and orchestrated in my mouth. For agedashi tofu, I think it quite okay and best pair with beer. Usually, I had this dish in cold soy sauce but this shop offers hot soy sauce so I quite unfamiliar but it was nice to have one. Lastly, the beer they do offer you around 4-5 taps in stores. I did try 2 taps out of them. The first one was seasonal tap that tastes like light lager. It was nice and good to quench my thirst. The other was Kirin ichiban. This one is awesome and quite refreshing.
