Carrying on with our Vietnamese food safari here in Queensland, we went here for lunch because District 1 gets consistently high ratings.

We had the beef phó, the duck lychee orange salad and the beef lemongrass banh mi. All were excellent.

The phó was so good we forgot to take photos of it! It was rich, aromatic, with lots of layers of flavour, as you would expect from a good phó. The beef was beautifully cooked and tender. It had the right balance of broth to noodles. You won't go wrong with this phó.

The duck salad was really interesting too. Very good texture combinations from the vegetables, and the Peking duck was perfectly rendered.

The beef lemongrass banh mi was also excellent. Fresh, zesty, and with good balance of ingredients, and no skimping.

We spoke to the owner and his wife, who were very hospitable. We will certainly be back for more phó and several other menu items we want to try. Some of the curries look very interesting.

This place deserves its frequent mention in the top Vietnamese restaurants in Brisbane. Very easy to recommend.

It's January 2023, and we've been back several times now, and they are always consistent. Today we have the pork chop worth broken rice, and the Bo Ko. Both were superb. The depth in the Bo Ko was especially good.

As good as anything we had in Saigon...

Please try this cafe, it will become your favorite. Came down 4 times this month - you can tell why! The cheapest and best Vietnamese food. Beautiful food made by owners.

•Squid Papaya salad 5/5 Portions huge! Squid is deep fried in perfection.

• Duck and orange salad 4/5 Was great.

•Crispy chicken with egg noodle soup 5/5 Chicken is so crispy and big, juicy. They know how to deep fry man! So good!!! This is a must.

•Duck noodle soup 5/5

•Beef pho 5/5

•Pineapple fried rice 5/5 In real pineapple bowl! The king prawns were plenty, amazing flavour. Must try dish

•Noodle salad with sugarcane prawns 5/5 This is the original recipe, they hand roll(wrap around) the juicy prawn meat on the sugarcane. I’ve never seen any Vietnamese restaurants do this way, other places they just buy those cheap tempura but here, they make it original!

Coconut water was also big and sweet. Tony the owner cut the coconut in half so you can...

They are so nice here and the food is so tasty. It hurts me that I have to give a one star review but I have to warn my fellow vegetarians.

I ordered the vegetarian pho but they mixed up my order and brought a chicken. Though I got the sense from the waiter he wanted me to just take the chicken pho, after an awkward silence he apologized and said they'd bring me a vegetarian one. After a while, they brought out a pho with tofu.

As I was eating it, it became clear to me that this was the same pho that they had just fished the chicken out of and put tofu on top. It still had bits of chicken in it. Obviously this is something a restaurant just can't do. This makes me doubt how seriously they take vegetarianism when preparing their meals.

My meat eating friends have nothing but love for this place but I won't...

Must-try Pho! I had the best pho (beef noodle soup) I've ever tasted at District 1 tonight. I ordered the first option on the menu - BEEF NOODLE SOUP - Pho - and it was served after a short wait. The waitress also brought me chilled water, which was a nice touch. The noodles were a very generous serve, with thinly-sliced beef, beef balls, and brisket, in a delicious broth, with spicy sauce on the side to add according to your taste - I added it all. The dish was great from first to last bite - tender beef, tasty noodles, and delicious and well-balanced soup base, I was impressed with the staff tonight as well. The waitress was polite and friendly, and the owner/chef was attentive to his customers. I will definitely be back. Thank you.

Oh no, what happened to you guys? I’ve ordered takeaway from/dined in at District 1 many, many times over the past 9 years I’ve lived here and it has generally been great but what I got from uber eats tonight was absolutely awful. Ordered two crispy chicken noodle soups that didn’t have the egg noodles, pickled vegetables, rich broth or the dipping sauce you’d usually get. Instead, we got pho noodles, a few pieces of onion and pale dishwater stock that had no depth or good flavour to it at all. We tried to eat it, but ended up discarding it as it tasted terrible. Is there new ownership, or perhaps new chefs? Packaging was different as well. Incredibly disappointing :(
