Carrying on with our Vietnamese food safari here in Queensland, we went here for lunch because District 1 gets consistently high ratings.
We had the beef phó, the duck lychee orange salad and the beef lemongrass banh mi. All were excellent.
The phó was so good we forgot to take photos of it! It was rich, aromatic, with lots of layers of flavour, as you would expect from a good phó. The beef was beautifully cooked and tender. It had the right balance of broth to noodles. You won't go wrong with this phó.
The duck salad was really interesting too. Very good texture combinations from the vegetables, and the Peking duck was perfectly rendered.
The beef lemongrass banh mi was also excellent. Fresh, zesty, and with good balance of ingredients, and no skimping.
We spoke to the owner and his wife, who were very hospitable. We will certainly be back for more phó and several other menu items we want to try. Some of the curries look very interesting.
This place deserves its frequent mention in the top Vietnamese restaurants in Brisbane. Very easy to recommend.
It's January 2023, and we've been back several times now, and they are always consistent. Today we have the pork chop worth broken rice, and the Bo Ko. Both were superb. The depth in the Bo Ko was especially good.
As good as anything we had in Saigon...

I ordered the vegetarian pho but they mixed up my order and brought a chicken. Though I got the sense from the waiter he wanted me to just take the chicken pho, after an awkward silence he apologized and said they'd bring me a vegetarian one. After a while, they brought out a pho with tofu.
As I was eating it, it became clear to me that this was the same pho that they had just fished the chicken out of and put tofu on top. It still had bits of chicken in it. Obviously this is something a restaurant just can't do. This makes me doubt how seriously they take vegetarianism when preparing their meals.
My meat eating friends have nothing but love for this place but I won't...
