We went here on a last minute whim, and wow were we happy with our choice! The atmosphere is quite opulent, especially being greeted with a lovely crystal chandelier. The staff are welcoming and warm, and are happy to offer suggestions for the menu. We ordered prawn toast and crab and sweet corn soup for entree. Both dishes were delightful, and the soup had lovely big chunks of crab in it. For mains, we ordered salted fish and chicken fried rice, chilli prawns and duck in plum sauce. Each dish was delectable. The chilli was very well balanced with the prawns, allowing the flavour of the prawns to still be the star of the dish. The prawns were big and succulent, and would please any seafood lover. The duck in plum was also delightful. This dish can be hit and miss, as sometimes it can be quite over powering. Not this one. The integrity of the duck was maintained, and not coated in a thick batter. The sauce was also kept quite savoury, again allowing the duck flavour to be the star of the show. Salted fish and chicken rice is my favourite and must have dish, and this one did not disappoint! Lovely pops of saltiness we’re just what the doctor ordered. We will be visiting here again, and will be encouraging friends to...
Read moreMy best friend and I went here today for lunch on a whim because another place we wanted to go to was closed and needless to say, I won’t be going back for anything but the service. The old lady who served us was a sweetheart.
We had the yum cha and it was average.
What shocked us though, was the price. It amounted to $50 for the two of us and we’re not big eaters. We ordered prawn dumplings, pork dumplings, turnip cake, eggplant with prawn, chicken feet and century egg porridge. It should’ve been a red flag that there were no prices on the menu but we didn’t think that would be an issue. The only thing we knew the price of was the century egg porridge which cost $6.80, so we assumed everything else would be fairly priced.
Only after we paid and walked out did it hit us that $50 was way too much for 6 yum cha dishes where we’d normally pay $35 for at other restaurants, so my friend went back in to ask for a tax invoice. They couldn’t provide us with anything but the credit card receipt which wasn’t helpful in working out how much each dish really cost.
So based on our calculations minus the porridge, each dish would’ve worked out to $8. Bit of a rip...
Read morePossibly the worst aquarium store in Brisbane. My daughter's pet fish Ian Thorpe passed away this week, and I hurried out to get a replacement. I thought this would be a cheaper place to grab a fish since most of the signs were written in Asian, but this was just the start of my troubles. There was a board behind the counter which seemed to show a variety of fish in Chinese, I had a bit of trouble reading it so I just pointed to a great looking fish in one of the tanks.
I already felt a connection to him and called him Henry after my dear grandfather, rest his soul. They pulled Henry out of the tank, but then to my shock and horror cut his head off!! I was too traumatised to even speak, but I have to give this place a reluctant 5 stars because Henry was absolutely delicious with plum sauce, rest his soul again. Even my daughter enjoyed the leftovers, but I don't think I will tell her that was poor dear old...
