Situated in the heart of the Fortitude Valley Nonbei Japanese Restaurant is quite easily missed by drivers and walkers. This extremely well decorated and impeccably clean Japanese BBQ Restaurant churns out some incredible tasty dishes. For sides we ordered the octopus balls, sprout salad and spring rolls all which tasted as good as the looked.  The spring rolls and octopus balls were incredibly tasty and left your mouth watering for some more. For the BBQ we ordered Wagyu Oyster Blade and Chicken Breast. The Wagyu was incredibly tasty and the quality of the meat could be seen from the lines of fat within it. The chicken was quite dry and a little bland however this could be as a result of our cooking methodology. However prices are inflated for portion sizes when it comes to the BBQ meats and fish and it appears that a $49/pp open menu option is a wise decision if you are hungry! Overall I can say this is definitely favourite in the valley.

Came for dinner on Saturday night. Good atmosphere and nice decoration. Had the premium buffet which is good but not fantastic when compared to others around Brisbane cbd. Staffs missed 1 order but quickly corrected when told. Good quality premium wagyu and lots other other choices to choose from. Nice iPad system for ordering which include a final order when timing coming close to 90 mins (max for Buffett). The fire pit was not optimum as fire not evenly distributed. Very friendly and efficient staffs on a busy night so high praise for the waiter and waitresses. Price is reasonable considering the location and quality of the meat. Clean and well maintained. On entertainment book for charity so extra star for that. Generally recommended.

Thoroughly enjoy eating here, in my opinion the best Japanese restaurant in Brisbane, always get the $60 deluxe buffet, really good value for money You can't really ask for more in my opinion, great atmosphere, dimly lit, they provide you with a tablet so you don't need to annoy a waiter/waitress, you can order as fast or as slow as you like, ice cold water with ice which is a bonus for me, menu is really good, the times I've been there the days Wagyu has been good, the aburi eel and the salmon is delicious I really like the corn with butter and mushrooms with butter, haven't tried the whole menu but everything I've tried has been good and generous sizing Pictures speak for themselves Can't wait to go back!

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Nonbei Sake. Even after moving to the Sunshine Coast, I still made the trip back just to eat here. But after tonight, I’m done. My friends and I will never be coming back again.

You’ve changed the menu without telling anyone — removed dishes like beef tataki, yet kept the same expensive prices. If you’re cutting costs, why are we, your customers, the ones paying for it?

The food quality has gone down, variety has decreased, but prices haven’t budged. Now you’ve even moved scallops to the “deluxe” tier. Really? Are scallops that expensive? $95 per person — who is actually getting their money’s worth?

I asked politely if beef tataki was still available. Your staff replied, “It’s off the menu, but if you really want it, we can make it for you.” Excuse me? Do I look like I’m begging? Like I can’t afford to eat? I’m not here to plead — I’m a paying customer who just wants the dish I used to love.

And now you’re proudly putting plain sushi and rice in the buffet and calling it a “new menu”? Are you serious? Who the hell comes to a Japanese buffet to fill up on rice?

Nonbei Sake used to be special. Now it just feels like a money grab — less value, more attitude, and zero respect for loyal customers. If you keep going down this path, it’s only a matter of time before more people walk away.

Disappointed is an...

Absolutely love this place! Went there on a Friday night in a group of 3 and really enjoyed the deluxe buffet. There are plenty of fresh and high quality BBQ/cold/hot food to choose from. I particularly enjoyed their unagi, aburi salmon, salmon sashimi, wagyu, ox tongue, pork belly, and deep fried oysters.

A lot have changed since my previous visit, what I like most about the changes is that you now order through an iPad at your table as opposed to ordering through a wait staff. The wait staff were always very busy and it was hard get their attention. To compensate for the extra wait time we had to put a large order in everytime we order, which almost always led to a penalty charge for not being able to finish the food in the end... Highly recommend everyone to really pace yourself and do small orders at a time. Everyone I have been to Nonbei with have found that you can go from "almost full" to "one more crumb and I will throw up" in a matter of seconds...

In my opinion this place is best to go in in a group of 3-5. If you go in in a larger group you will probably be sharing the grill with too many people (grill gets too busy) and you are also more likely to over order. As there is a minimum serving size for each dish you order, you will not be able to try as many dishes as you can if you go with just one...

Tried the premium buffet + drinks buffet with a big group of friends in the restaurant. They deliberately served the food slowly and gave us less food than we’ve ordered. They never mentioned about the last order until the tablet rang suddenly. And exited out the order page within a minute at 19:14. (Our table was book from 18:00-20:00) There’s no food come to our table after that, even though we’re all sure that we’ve ordered more before.

During the dinner, they keep asking the girls on the table ‘Can you finish your food? There’s a lot of food coming.’ And we’ve answered for few times that we can and we understand there’s chargers for unfinished food at the end. (Sadly most of us actually wanted to eat more but we couldn’t)

We had to leave early at the end due to no food on the table (19:30)

The services and food do not reflect the price. Definitely not recommended and will never be there again. There are so many other better options of buffet in brisbane. Find some other places that could make you enjoy you food and time with you friends there! Suck to feel stress on...
