Came here this morning for a quick breakfast. We were seated at the back in a tight little dining area.
I was treated to hearing from the loud mouthed woman next to us about how Grant the engineer was better suited for a promotion, and the table of nurses behind us seemed to be no longer using their hospital voices and instead seeing how loud they could talk in a small confined space.
The staff were friendly and welcoming but unfortunately the food really wasn't anything to write home about.
I had the Rueben sandwich with extra pastrami which when it came out, it was tiny, flat, and soggy on the bottom. I honestly couldn't tell if it had extra pastrami because it was still so small.
My girlfriend had sauteed mushrooms on toast which was fine, nothing crazy.
I asked for an iced latte and what I got was the weirdest tasting coffee I have ever had. If I was blindfolded I wouldn't have known what I was drinking. It tasted like it came from a can from Woolies. I don't know if they put honey in it but it was extremely sweet and didn't even come with a straw, I couldn't even finish it.
$56 later for 2 coffees and basically a tiny sandwich and mushrooms on toast is quite rediculous. I had high hopes after seeing this place mentioned on tv but after being to many other cafes in the area and having much better value for money, it's actually not hard to see why this place...
Read moreMy friend suggested this place and we were eager to try the food. Despite the high expectations, our experience turned out to be quite underwhelming. All of us, being half Filipinas, were excited to sample the cuisine.
Two of my friends didn't consume pork, so they requested to substitute their bacon with haloumi. However, when the staff brought our meals to the table, we immediately noticed that they had gotten the order wrong. When we informed the staff about the mistake, her response was rather impolite. She mentioned that she would check her notes. We tried to get her attention for a good 10 minutes, even calling her, but she purposefully ignored us. Meanwhile, my friends patiently waited for their correct meals.
As for me, I decided to order the Adobo burger. Unfortunately, it lacked any discernible flavors and was disappointingly dry.
While waiting for their meals, my friends resorted to eating chips. By the time their correct orders arrived, they were already full. Moreover, the mango smoothie that was described by the staff turned out to be nothing more than pure mango in a glass bottle. We were expecting a freshly blended mango drink.
The lady working there did apologize for the mistake with the haloumi. However, overall, our experience was quite...
Read moreStopped by for lunch at the newly opened Dovetail social recently on Laura street, in Highgate hill- formerly known as St Laura Cafe. The couple behind the well-know Dovetail on Overend street, in Norman Park have now taken over this charming little place tucked away on a quiet leafy street a few streets back from South Bank station.
The cafe serves up some of the yummiest GF baked goods, dairy-free options, filippino sweet delights and because of the multicultural backgrounds of the staff, you will find a few south-american and asian influences. They still have their famous Ruben sandwich of course and the coffee is superb👌
They have a room in the cafe that is reserved for parties and tea parties, & they can cater to people's food intolerances when you let them know at the time of booking your high tea.
There is plenty of room to sit inside or if you want some fresh air, relax in the quaint outdoor seating area towards the back of the cafe💜
My fave dish which i recommend is the Adobo dish, which is the owner's father's receipe. This filippino dish is so yummy, i always get sad when i take my last bite🙈 it's a combination of chicken and pork adobo with rice and a little bit of curried egg, taro leaves &...
