The Arbour Walkway in Brisbane's South Bank Parklands is a 1-kilometer-long arbour known for its distinctive design of 443 steel column tendrils, up to ten metres high, adorned vertically with vibrant magenta-coloured bougainvillea plants. The greening structure functions as a pedestrian walkway which connects the Griffith Film School and Vulture Street to the Cultural Forecourt adjacent to Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), as well as the rest of the South Bank Parklands through which it runs. The arbour follows the course of the former Expo 88 boat canal, adding a layer of historical context to the structure. It was designed by Melbourne-based architectural firm, Denton Corker Marshall and was opened officially in 2000. It provides a shaded and picturesque route through the parklands, connecting various attractions (Wheel of Brisbane, QPAC, etc.) and offering a tranquil space for leisurely strolls. The Arbour Walkway also features atmospheric lighting, making it a romantic and enjoyable walk even at night.

The Arbour Walkway 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ in Brisbane's South Bank is much more than just a trail, it's an enchanting experience ✨️ Blanketed by a vibrant canopy of bright pink bougainvillea flowers 💐 and highlighted by its unique architectural design 😲 the Arbour Walkway offers a serene escape right in the heart ❤️ of the city 🏢 The Arbour Walkway, also known as the South Bank Grand Arbour, is a 1 km pedestrian pathway 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ located in the beautiful South Bank Parklands in Brisbane. This award-winning 🏆 structure is defined by its unique design, composed of 443 curling steel columns. Not only does it provide a feast for the eyes 👀 but also much needed shade. Even on hot days 🥵 it is pleasantly cool inside.

One of the nice aspects of the Southbank Parklands is that you can chose between walking along the river edge Clem Jones Promenade, with wide city views, or the more landscape focused Arbour Walkway. The shaded Arbour is a great option on hot Brisbane mornings, plus it passes interesting lawns, gardens and waterways. Very Bris-bee.
