I visited Gerard's Bar late at night around 10pm on a Saturday night. No staff greeted us at the front so I decided to ask the bartenders if the kitchen was still open for food. They had no clue, kept going around in circle until we were directed to ask the front again. Waited for a young male staff to finish the transaction with another customer. When I asked whether the kitchen was still open, he said yes, and the proceeded to throw the menu onto the service table between us "as a joke". Once we ordered the food we asked for drinks menu. He then did it again with the drinks menu, throwing/dropping the menu onto the table and again laughed about it as if rude customer service was a funny thing? Did not appreciate this at all. The outside sitting area is incredibly crowded with plastic furniture, the tables were way too small to even fit 3 small dishes, ended up sitting our drinks on spare stools. The waitress didn't securely set the utensils and fell to the ground, she commented that we wouldn't need spoons anyway and did not offer new utensils. Food was served very quickly, but very mediocre, has the Gerard's bistro feel to it. Very expensive for what you get as well. Overall a 1 star experience. I won't be back or recommend here to my...
Read moreAmazing charcuterie nestled behind the Bistro and off the busier James St.
Almost overwhelming selection of meats and cheeses (50g portions, priced from ~$9), as well as Spanish preservas (anchovies, olives etc), terrine, pate and assortment of prepared dishes to choose from - thankfully the very helpful / knowledgeable staff will guide you through the process.
All serves come with a chunky serve of crisp baguette as well as house-made pickles.
Highlight of the meal in no particular order but recommend all three are - the mackerel tartare (comes with a side of showmanship when served), duck liver + PX pate (silky smooth, deep and rich flavour) as well as the unique and brilliantly executed vegan cold cuts (seasonal vegetables prepared in a way to mimic traditional cold cuts; mock cheese made from potato was phenomenal in taste...
Read moreVisited on a Sunday afternoon and ordered drinks at the bar. Staff at the bar told us to sit anywhere. Once seated, we used the QR code on the table to order a bowl of chips as they were on all table. After 30 minutes, I went back to the bar to follow up if the order had been received and order another round. I was told the QR codes had been switched off, which wasn’t made clear, even though they were displayed on every table. I showed proof that the order had been placed and paid for, but was told the kitchen was closed and given no further assistance and directed to pay for my drinks. The issue wasn’t the cost, but the lack of resolution and the dismissive response. Poor customer...
